Franklin Co played great but looked kind of scattered in OT. That first play had 2 guys in motion, a snap before QB was ready and a costly decision to pitch instead of take a no gain on the play. Almost an INT on the 2nd play. An apparant inxomplete pass on the 3rd play (incorrectly ruled a catch) . Did the final play seem like a pick play? I’m not sure. I guess the refs usually don’t call that in high school, it almost worked but for a few inches

Boyle's offense line played lights out!  McDaniel 32 rushes for 199 yards and Gillis with 18 rushes for 85 yards to go along with 11/17 passing for 168 yards.  Overall Boyle ended up with 457 yards of offense and best of all ZERO turnovers!   Boyle's balance on offense to me was the key issue in the game.  Coleman Clark... what a big time play on your 59 yard TD pass to avoid 3 tacklers to get in the endzone with 3:51 left to play.  Boyle kept that high powered offense of the Flyers on the bench for 9:00 in the 4th. Quarter.

Defense never gave up the big play.  Held the Flyers to a 0-8 on 3rd. downs.  Big shout out to Freshman DB Avery Bodner!  Played big time minutes in the second half and had a nice pass break up midway in the 4th. quarter to force a punt and most of all the great interception (Only one thrown this season by Broyles)  late in the game.   Luke Sheperson made a sensational play on the overtime 4th. down tip to seal the game.  

So happy for Jackson Smith to hit the fieldgoal in overtime to give the Rebels a 3 point win!  He's a good kid that deserved it after last year.  

Also happy to see that the officiating did not play a outcome in this game.

I’m really happy for Jeff Hester!  He’s a great dude, and what a way to end it with a big defensive play.  Fitting.

The routes created traffic for sure. Definitely not anything illegal in the execution of the play. LB did a good job cutting in front of the traffic. If the QB throws that ball a little sooner it is a TD.

He sure plays hard.    

I haven’t watched the game yet but as far as pick plays go they are going to happen. Unless the WR really screws up it it will never get called. I’m looking forward to seeing the game. I’ve watched most of the FC players play since MS and I’m looking forward to seeing how they’ve developed. 

I thought this game went about like expected FC would give them all they wanted but BC would figure out a way to win in the end.

I guess it’s devastating because it’s the championship but really they wasn’t supposed to be here they were supposed to lose to Central and then they made and was supposed to get blown out and they showed they were probably as good as anyone in the state except Trinity so that being said I think they have a lot to be proud of and should remember this season as something great not something to hang their heads.

It’s devastating because they lost on the last play of the state championship. 

In a year that we were fortunate to have a high school football season the 2A and 4A championship games brought a fun and exciting end to a somewhat funky season. Congratulations to this blue collar, lunch box toting group of Rebels on a great season and a hard fought uphill battle to secure a 9th state title and a second ring for these seniors. Hats off to Franklin Co. as well!

 

What do both teams have coming back next year? 

Was thinking this morning about the game.  I give Franklin all props for a great game and they will be one of the teams to beat next year.  Looking at the game Boyle beat Franklin in the stats and should have had 21 more points.  One TD was called back for holding and had to he ball twice in the 1 and was stopped by Franklin. So you have to give Franklin credit for stopping Boyle when they did. Plus to drive the ball 99 yards to score.  But like my mom always said “ if and but were candy and nuts we would all have a Merry Christmas “.  Franklin to me has to be the favorite has of now to win it next year.

Losing starting QB and best wide receiver, have a lot coming back in the supporting cast though.
