Skull cap/skullie or beanie. My mother always called it a knit hat when I was growing up.

Skull cap.  In my day a beanie was the smaller cloth version worn by Catholic kids and brownies.

 

I grew uo calling it a toboggan.

We called it a sock toboggan growing up. Usually just call it a sock cap/hat now.
