Working for UK Football the past 4 years allowed me to meet and interact with Jared multiple times. He was one of the most geninue people that you'd ever meet. He was a great story teller and could recite any great UK story and amaze you. He will be greatly missed.

I played football with Jared at Highlands. Really hurt to lose this guy. He was a really down to earth, nice guy. Never heard him brag about anything, and he had a lot to brag about. Jared was a supremely gifted athlete and natural leader. He always included everyone. He got more excited about his teammate's accomplishments than his own. I never heard him say a bad thing about anybody. We lost a really good one way too soon. Tragic loss.

When I think of Jared Lorenzen I remember watching him at Sheldon Clark. After SC upset Belfry's anticipated meeting with the Bluebirds, my dad and I went up to Inez to see what the fuss about Lorenzen and Smith was.

 

This was before Hudl and Rivals, so while we are watching Highlands warm up we see a bigger kid at QB who doesn't seem all that impressive running the Offense. I think we both sad, "That's Lorenzen?" (Ended up being Gino Guidugli so we werent exact the best talent evaluators).

 

Then suddenly these two Offensive linemen step on the field at the far end zone and begin stretching to themselves.

 

One of those linemen trots to the 50 and the other hums a perfect line drive spiral that pops him in his chest from the endzone.

 

The lineman at the 50 returns the throw then steps back about five yards and the pass comes just as hard and perfect as the first.

 

At one point the lineman wearing #22 hums a 50 yard strike from his knee.

 

I have never witnessed a bigger arm on a QB in my life.

 

Maybe not the bets decision maker on the field, but my goodness was he fun to watch play the game.

I played baseball against him in high school and got to watch a handful of his football games. When he warmed up on one knee on the football field, it seemed like those throws went as high as the lights and 50+ yards. I’ve never seen anything like him since.

I would hope that UK will retire #22. I don't know what number Jared was at Highlands but I hope they do the same.

This absolutely disgusts me but I wanted to make it known on here. Apparently people have created false accounts trying to imitate Jared Lorenzen's family. They are asking for donations and setting up Go Fund Me accounts.

 

I worked with Jared's sister for a few years, she has posted on line that her family is NOT ASKING FOR DONATIONS. Just wanted to make sure folks were aware, this may have been discussed already.

It is beyond ridiculous what people will do to take advantage of others.

With that said, the outpouring of Jared's family, nationwide, has been great. He was certainly loved and adored.

It's still hard to believe that Jared is gone with how young he was. He will undoubtedly be remembered as a legend in Kentucky at the high school and college levels for his accomplishments as a quarterback. I don't know if there will ever be another quarterback with Jared's uniqueness that he brought to the position at any level again, I highly doubt it. He was as equally amazing as a basketball player too. The early loss of Jared is definitely sad and I'm sorry for his family, friends, and anyone else that his loss has impacted. Jared was an amazing talent and an even better person. Rest in Peace Jared.

I had the opportunity to meet him at a mutual friends bachelor party. He was sporting his Super Bowl ring and was letting everyone there handle it and try it on. it was unreal how large this mans hands and fingers were. I would say you could pass a half dollar coin through it easily.

The 22 yard line at Highlands' David Cecil Memorial Stadium was painted blue last night. I hope they keep it that way all season long.

 

It will stay that way all year. His jersey is being retired the night they play Conner and UK band playing at halftime that night.
