just 4 fun
What are some of the best playoff rivalries across the state? These would be 2 teams who don't play each other during the regular season but plays enough in the playoffs to be considered a rivalry and usually have good games with each other.... Heres a couple that come to mind.... Trinity/Male Danville/Mayfield Belfry/Russell

gchs_uk9
Belfry/Russell Recent historian! Belfry and Russell have only met twice in the postseason, with Belfry winning 39-17 in 2004 and Russell returning the favor in 2005 by a count of 20-14. Both teams went on to win state championships. Belfry and Russell were district rivals for many years in Class AAA, but their playoff rivalry is still very young. We could, however, be seeing a repeat this season. colonel-fan
CovCath/LexCath have developed somewhat of a playoff rivalry. The games are usually pretty close and go down to the last drive, one way or the other.
Hard Rock Fan
Rockcastle/Danville played several times in the early 90's. I could be wrong, but seems like Rockcatle/Ashland Blazer play almost every year. What about CCH/Highlands? I don't know their history, but I would expect them to have played many playoff games against each other.

But some of the best games of this rivalry have been in the playoffs. I'd say CovCath's biggest strictly postseason rival would be LexCath. just 4 fun
How about Somerset/Pikeville....I know they've met a few times but I don't know if its been 1 sided or decent games...
gchs_uk9
How about Somerset/Pikeville....I know they've met a few times but I don't know if its been 1 sided or decent games... They've met four times, and actually, three of those games haven't been very close. Interesting scores for playoff games, considering these two have always been quality small-school programs in Kentucky. Class AA 1978: Somerset 40, Pikeville 8 Class A 2003: Pikeville 20, Somerset 14 2004: Pikeville 37, Somerset 7 2005: Somerset 35, Pikeville

If 2 years are all they've played then I guess I wouldn't call that a rivalry just yet....I'd think one would have to play another at least 4 or 5 times minimum to get that distinction... Thats what I was thinking...Lex Cath and Cov Cath are 2-2 with some good games recently, so, they look like the 2nd best of the ones mentioned here...Middlesboro and Belfry seem to be playing alot lately, but, the games haven't been that competitive...
