I'd give Cox the edge over Draud, but neither one "has" to be No. 1. From what I've heard about him, I may put Coleman at No. 1. We all have our regional biases when it comes down to the best at anything.

I'll admit I'm too young to have actually seen Stepp and Coleman, and I am a 13th Region guy, but HDE is right about Cox being in the Top 5. No way there are 5 better high school shooters to come out of KY.

Maybe not top 5, but Troy Mckinley from SK was the best shooter from my era in NKY. I'll never forget him pullin up at half court and burying a jump shot to beat the buzzer. Not a heave or a throw from half court, a straight up jump shot.

Didn't Alsop start 2 maybe three years at G-Town when they were top 5 in the NAIA . Talk about talent on those Scott Co. teams in the late 90's early 00's. They had 3 D-I players Hamilton-Marshall,Jones & Hundley-Vandy, And also Alsop who played a big role at G-Town which is technically D-I caliber playing NAIA. They also had #23, I think his name was Harris but I can't recall for sure who probabily could have played D-I, and may have but to my knowledge didn't. But they were stacked from top to bottom.

 

I played against Scott Co the year after Jones, Hamilton, and Harris graduated. Alsip and Hundley wer their main players. Both we outstanding HS players!!

Who knows what those teams had back then? If you score 75 points in a church league game, you're accomplished something. There's no way to argue that Ervin Stepp isn't one of the greatest shooters in Kentucky high school history.

I have been told by people from that region that Stepp was taken care of by most of the region's refs ....that if a defender got within two feet of him he was whistled for a foul.

That sounds good to me, I was thinking the same thing after reading about some of these other players I left out.

Scott Draud has to be #1. If you never seen him shoot then your missing possibly the best shooter in high school history. Anywhere. He still puts on shooting clinics and can stand at half court and make 10 in a row with only one hand. Its amazing. I once saw him at NKU camp and he shot 200 in about 25minutes and only missed twice.

 

Chris Lofton is #1. Draud puts on clinics at NKU basketball camps, Lofton put on a shooting clinic at the biggest scene in bluegrass high school basketball, the state championship in Rupp Arena. Draud doesn't have a ring. Lofton won a ring due to his silky smooth jumpshot. That's amazing!

 

Not to mention, the best shot I have ever seen in a game (any game). His buzzer-beater to tie the game in the fourth quarter against the number one ranked team in the state on their home court, in their own tournament, in front of Tubby Smith (who said "no") and many UK players. Oh yeah, it was a fade-away with a kid in his grill from near half court.

UK also turned down Draud. Because Rex said yes.

Yeah, I was going to say that making shots on an XBOX game don't count. 198/200 with one hand is a little far fetched.
