Richie Farmer IMO is the best shooter i've ever heard of. He scored 51 points in the 1988 State finals game. Clay lost to Ballard that year, the team who they had beaten the year before in the Championship game. He was almost automatic from anywhere on the floor, especially the free throw line. if you needed points he was the go to man. He had a patented spin move that no one could stop, including Allen Houston in the 1987 state championship game.

Farmer was a great, great scorer, and he was so strong that he just backed people into the lane and did his spin and scored.

 

That didn't work nearly as well in college.

Bishop Brossart's Nathan Seiter could fill it up from anywhere. He got his shot off so quick it was crazy.

As far as players I've seen in person:

1. Scott Draud (he was incredible)

2. Chris Lofton

3. Allan Houston

4. Stuart Miller

a stellar career? I dont think so. Heck, he never played defense in HS, and shot it 35 times a game. I can remember when he played us at home and a few times he stood at half court waiting to get the ball.

 

That is my memory of Harrison also.

Draud was a good shooter, but I think you are exaggerating a little bit.

 

This is not lie, I swear. He does this every year at NKU Camp. He starts off with layup and as works his way around the basket and keeps stepping out. At the end he shoots from halfcourt. Jump shots and then shows off his famous one handed half courts shot. This one time he literally never missed until he started shooting from 30 ft out. He missed twice from out there.

 

Another year he did the same thing but missed a bit more and when it came time to shoot his famous one handed half court shot he then hit 10 straight. AMAZING!! I'll never forget those two days.

 

If you've never seen it you're missing out.

Maybe not top 5, but Troy Mckinley from SK was the best shooter from my era in NKY. I'll never forget him pullin up at half court and burying a jump shot to beat the buzzer. Not a heave or a throw from half court, a straight up jump shot.

 

 

Draud was the best I have seen from the N Ky area and I am surprised that McKinly isn't getting more love from his N Ky brethren. He could flat fill it up from the outside and he also did it on the biggest stage leading Simon Kenton to state championship.

Two years ago I was at a middle school girls basketball game. After the game was over some guy stepped out on the court and started shooting. I watched him for about ten minutes before I mentioned to my wife, "watch this guy shoot. He is unbelievable." He was crippled up from a car wreck and could barely get his left hand up to help him shoot. He probably made 45 to 50 three pointers while only missing TWO!!! I asked someone who was standing there what his name was nad he said, " ERVIN STEPP". As for my opinion, he's still the best shooter in Kentucky.

Got some Old-Timers on this list, I like it.

I watched Ervin Stepp play many, many games and if the "3" existed in his day, his totals would be staggering.

 

His range and accuracy, were effortless and he was extremely accurate. He may not have been the most athletic, highest jumper or a dunker but Stepp was, one of the "best pure shooters".

 

Alan Houston was another excellent pure shooter, along with many others mentioned in this thread.

I know Chris Lofton is the all time leading scorer at Mason Co, surpassing Ronnie Lyons, but from watching both of them play, I have to give the edge to Lyons. He was shorter and had to play against bigger guards and I would say that 90% of his shots came from behind the 3 point line, if it existed back when he played, which means Chris wouldn"t come close to breaking his scoring record if they both had played under the same rules. Watched him score 60 one night against Bath Co. at the Fieldhouse and hit a half-court hook shot from in front of the scorer's table in the district finals against Maysville while being double-teamed. MCPAPA should remember those moments as well.:thumb:
