I don't know about Beechwood. Lots of pride in Ft. Mitchell (people love to remember all those games in the 90's) and the gate has to be the best of the year.

I definitely think CovCath is one of the top 5 teams in the state and probably the top team in Kentucky at this point.

A lot to unpack here.

 

1) If beating Male, Scott County, or Trinity is the only way to claim best in the state, CovCath can't do that. Interesting bar to clear you've created. That's fine, but that is your opinion. And everybody has an opinion.

2) Male plays a better schedule that CovCath - based on what? Both CalPreps and Massey say CovCath has played a better schedule to date.

3) Who are Male's better wins? Trinity is a good win. However, King's, Beechwood, and SFD are all better wins than Butler.

4) You have to dismiss the computer rankings, because they don't support your predetermined conclusion of a 6A team being the best team in the state.

5) No need to reference SOS to me. Trinity and Scott County schedules are ahead of CovCath's schedule for now, but CovCath has games ahead with Chartard and Highlands that will likely boost their SOS ahead of Scott County's. Trinity's schedule is insanely tough for a team that hadn't settled on a qb yet and will likely end up #1 in the state.

 

Eh I wouldn't go so far as to say Kings or Beechwood is better than Butler.

 

Imo CovCath is experiencing what Beechwood has experienced during this last realignment. Beechwood couldn't win titles when Mayfield was still 1A. People started even saying will Beechwood ever go back to being what they were? Well it took the top teams leaving 1A, for them to get back to that. Yet if those top teams like Mayfield never left, what would people feel about Beechwood if they still couldn't get past that Mayfield hurdle? Which based off both teams results against Corbin, they may not have been able to. However since Beechwood doesnt have to go through a team like that anymore. They get looked at very high again because they are winning. When imo a couple of their teams that lost to Mayfield, may have been better than a few of their teams that won it all recently. But those teams arent looked at the same, since they lost. However the only reason those teams lost is because they had tougher teams in their way. Yet ultimately each year before they lost to those Mayfield teams. Beechwood was looking so good, everyone would say this is the year they are the better team. Then Mayfield would prove otherwise once on the field.

 

Covcath like Beechwood is on a great run. Covcath is on a truly dominant run. However I dont think anyone would argue they truly didn't beat any of the top teams last year. Arguably didnt beat a top 10 team in the state of Kentucky last year except South Warren and those ohio teams they beat had down years.

 

Out of the last 2 years. Their best win was probably last night. So while Covcath is great no argument there. It really is hard to tell how great in comparison to the other top teams in Kentucky since they really dont get to play any other top teams in Kentucky. It would be very fair to assume teams like Trinity, Male, Scott County would have all been on the same winning streak against that schedule.

 

With all that said. I think Trinity was the best team last year. This year though I do think it would be a toss up on who would win between Male, Covcath, Scott County, and Trinity.

Works both ways. It's easy for Trinity fans to dismiss 5 losses and say they are really the best team in the state because nobody could have beaten any of the teams that beat them.

Currently, I’d say Male, Covington Catholic, and Frederick Douglass are the top three (no idea which order) South Warren at #4 and Boyle County at #5. CAL and Mayfield both have a solid argument for the #5 spot too.

I don’t know about S Warren and Christian Academy being above the likes of FD, SC, StX, BG and T. Just doesn’t feel plausible, but that’s my opinion. I get that team A beat team B and team B beat teamC stuff, but I don’t buy it. FD and SC would run both of them into the ground.

I see your point but Scott County has taken a complete 180 these past two weeks. Two weeks ago I would have never thought SW or CA would be comparable and Scott County may be better than most of them if they were to go head to head - but I'm just going by the wins and losses at face value. And I also believe SW's defense is one of the best in state, if not the best. I forgot who pointed it out but someone explained that their starting defense has almost been untouched.

I get ya, but I was looking at who SW has played and I wasn’t impressed at all. Now I know nothing about the out of state teams... but I had never heard of them and they beat them equally to the instate (average at best) teams. In my opinion Cov Cath would hang 50 on South Warren.
