This CovCath homer has made an argument many times. My argument is partly that the Colonels are the top ranked team in almost all of the computer rankings. We are 6 games into the season now, so those are getting pretty reliable now. There is also history and momentum on the side of the program right now. 21 straight wins and a state championship in the pocket. Cincinnati television station WKRC ranks the high school football teams each week in its viewing area. CovCath is ranked 2nd behind Colerain, but ahead of GCL teams St. X, Moeller, LaSalle, and Elder. That's the same LaSalle team that throttled Scott County. That's another data point in favor of the Colonels.

 

Since CovCath doesn't play Trinity, Male, or Scott County the point of who is better is moot. But they are more than arguably top 3. They are arguably top 1.

If your debating strategy is to say the best team in the state is the 6A champ and CovCath doesn't play in 6A (or play whatever team is the eventual champ in the regular season), then there is no point in debating. Just say there is nothing to change your mind instead of asking for arguments to the contrary.

The only thing that can change my mind is CovCath playing Male, Scott County or Trinity this year and defeating them. Male plays a better schedule than CovCath. They have better wins than CovCath. The best team CovCath will face this year will most likely be the winner of BG/South Warren. So by all means, what evidence is there that CovCath is the best team in the state? If you aren’t going to acknowledge how bad the computer rankings are and if you can’t admit that television stations are the world’s worst when evaluating high school athletics then you are correct, there is no point debating with me because as of right now those two arguments don’t hold weight with me.

I am probably too far off topic here but obviously that is going to have to change for the Colonels soon.

 

Ohio teams that consistently get beat by CCH are going to drop them and for other schools like Beechwood it is only a matter of time before they tap out.

It's easy to pick one outlier result and dismiss the rankings because you don't agree with them. I'm sure there were dozens you could have picked from. However, when all the rating systems agree and put CovCath #1 or a strong #2, there just might be something to be gleaned from the ratings systems. But heck if Paducah Tilgman lost a game to team X, then surely that means Trinity, or Male, or Scott County is number 1...

A lot to unpack here.

 

1) If beating Male, Scott County, or Trinity is the only way to claim best in the state, CovCath can't do that. Interesting bar to clear you've created. That's fine, but that is your opinion. And everybody has an opinion.

2) Male plays a better schedule that CovCath - based on what? Both CalPreps and Massey say CovCath has played a better schedule to date.

3) Who are Male's better wins? Trinity is a good win. However, King's, Beechwood, and SFD are all better wins than Butler.

4) You have to dismiss the computer rankings, because they don't support your predetermined conclusion of a 6A team being the best team in the state.

5) No need to reference SOS to me. Trinity and Scott County schedules are ahead of CovCath's schedule for now, but CovCath has games ahead with Chartard and Highlands that will likely boost their SOS ahead of Scott County's. Trinity's schedule is insanely tough for a team that hadn't settled on a qb yet and will likely end up #1 in the state.

I don't know about Beechwood. Lots of pride in Ft. Mitchell (people love to remember all those games in the 90's) and the gate has to be the best of the year.
