July 6, 20188 yr That Belgium Japan game was a lot of fun to watch. The final goal by Belgium on the quick exchange off the corner kick by Japan is my favorite play and goal I have ever seen in a soccer match. That goal was almost the exact same as the winner for the US over Algeria in 2010. But it was INCREDIBLE to watch. And now Belgium has played it into more.

It said going into today, Neymar has spent just under 20 minutes on the ground flopping during this World Cup.

July 7, 20188 yr I've watched more soccer the past two weeks than I have in my previous 40+ years of watching sports. Still don't love the sport, but this WC has been much more watchable. I really enjoyed the France vs Argentina match. One of the few soccer games I've watched that was played really wide open with both teams attacking and taking shots.
July 7, 20188 yr This will be England's first trip to the semifinals since 1990. They lost to West Germany that year in the semis, and then lost the consolation match to Italy, and came in 4th. England's 3rd time to the semifinals ever.
July 7, 20188 yr Russia and Croatia tied 1-1 at the half. Croatia is controlling the game, but Russia scored early out of nowhere. Croatia scored on a header later in the half. They said in the halftime coverage that 5 of the 9 quarterfinal goals thus far have been scored on headers.

July 7, 20188 yr So time for one more play in a tie match. Maybe 30 seconds to goal. A foul has been called and Croatia has a free kick from their own end. Here we go ... one more chance at a win ... anticipation ... Croatia sits there looks at the ball for 30 seconds and then finally kicks it and time runs out. What? I don't get it. Why not make one last try even though it is a long shot that you can score? Kick it down there and maybe a foul is called, maybe a hand ball, maybe a Russian defender trips or slips down, maybe you get lucky and someone is not marked closely enough ... nope, sit on the ball and do nothing.
July 7, 20188 yr Croatia is so much better but Russia has fed off this crowd all night. Penalties will be insane. With Croatia's keeper having a weak hamstring right now, I have to think penalties are in Russia's favor.
July 7, 20188 yr At long last the Cinderella story is ended - Russia out on PKs 2-2 (4-3). The right side won but you have to applaud the Russian effort. Their first goal was a beautiful blast from the smallest of spaces at about 24 yards out. Their last goal was in the second extra time period off a header to equalize, at a point when you had to think they were completely doomed.
