DragonFire
Incredible finish in the Iran/Portugal and Spain/Morocco games. Portugal led 1-0 and Morocco led 2-1, which would have put Portugal on top of the group. Simultaneous VARs changed everything, as a Spain goal was restored after an overturned offsides call while Iran was given a penalty, which brought them level at 1 all. Suddenly Spain was back on top of the group. 45 seconds later, Iran had a golden opportunity in the 95th minute as one of their players got free in space at the left side of the box, but put it into the net on the outside of the post. We were that close from Portugal spiraling from the top of the group to OUT in the span of 2 minutes. The expected (and really, the right) teams went through, but whoa what drama! DragonFire
A lot of drama right now with about 10 minutes left plus stoppage time: -Sweden are dragging Mexico right now 3-0. Unless Germany scores multiple times or Mexico manages to stage an incredible comeback, Sweden is going to win the group, and put Mexico at risk. -Germany is still locked in a 0-0 tie. I'm not seeing nearly the desperation that Germany showed the other day against Sweden. It's as if they don't realize their plight. Right now Germany would be out. Unless Mexico scores twice, a win, ANY win, would put Germany through. -If Germany were to win to go through, it would be BRUTAL for Mexico. They played so well in those first two games, and would have nothing to show for the win over Germany. But they've fallen apart in the second half against Sweden. DragonFire
Germany is the fourth defending champion out of the last five World Cups to fail to advance out of the group stage. It is the first time EVER that Germany has failed to advance.
DragonFire
Meanwhile Mexico backs in despite the 3-0 loss. I can't say I was hoping for that result.....

TAC
Japan loses to Poland but advances with lower number of yellow cards over Senegal. Both teams 1-1-1 with same goal differential. That is really a tie breaker? I'll add it to the list.

DragonFire
Another fantastic game this morning as France eliminates Argentina 4-3. Back and forth game that saw France go up 1-0 on a PK, Argentina score two straight spanning about 10 minutes of game time at the end of the first half and beginning of the second. France roared back with three goals in a row to take a 4-2 lead, which they held until stoppage time. Aguerro put in a header from Messi's service with 2 minutes left, but Argentina could not get all the way back to level. Fantastic high level game. Mbappe in particular was outstanding for France.
