Colonels_Wear_Blue
Trucks will cost 20% less to operate than diesel trucks, assuming the availability of charge stations is there. There are currently ~1,000 Tesla charge stations in the world. From what I've read, up-front cost of the Tesla big rig is expected to be at least $200,000 more than a diesel rig due to the cost of the batteries. The rigs will operate, essentially, on 4 Tesla Model 3 motors. One of the big questions for me is what we are going to do when magnetic ores (which batteries are dependent upon) begin coming depleted. Additionally, over 90% of the magnetic ores in the world are mined from China. Not so sure how I feel about that. Irish Cat
I'd imagine the $200,000 in additional cost combined with the lack of charging stations will be a pretty large hurdle to any company considering switching to this type of truck. It's not like current trucks are cheap by any means.
