Was Bracken County a force in the late 30's and early 40's? 3 of those players went D1 during the war.

Yes we’re very good. Region in 39, 40, 44. State champions in 1939 and we’re ranked one in the state in 44. All 5 of the starters were given scholarships to UK in 44. Clyde Cooper played at UK and went to play for the Chicago Staggs and Nashville Vols. Albert Cummmins played baseball and basketablk at Uk after serving in the army for two years. And played baseball at Michigan State.

Another Demon, Fred Hale, who holds the 10th highest career points total in the KHSAA record book, was on scholarship to UofL, but appears to have only played on the freshman team according to THIS media guide from 12/15/73. No records of him moving up to the varsity squad.

I remember Freddie Hale. He was a scoring machine. If the Demons scored 60 points, he would have 45 of them.

Add Nick Ayers from Simon Kenton he is currently at NKU

You're very close.

Didn't Dale Overmann play somewhere in the OVC?

I met Dale in the late 90's at Fitworks in Newport and he was one of the nicest guys I have ever met. Just a really sincere guy who was always in great shape. At that time he was probably 52 and had bigger arms than anyone in the gym. Thanks for sharing that piece. Dale said he played some softball but was humble and never really bragged about things he obviously could've bragged about.

I believe one of the Hiltz Boys from Covington Catholic was trained by Coach Frederick and he was a walk on at Notre Dame. I think he’s a Blue Angel pilot today. Pretty Special kid. Had a buddy whose son graduated from Covington Catholic and said he gave one of the best speeches he ever heard at graduation. Cool stuff

Simon Kenton

Troy McKinley, UK

Dave Dixon, EKU

Mike Brock, EKU

Soon to be Zach Kelch, Navy

There might be others.

Add in

Nick Ayers NKU

Jeff Mckinnley Louisville

I believe a couple more.

Polar Bears were also State Runner-up in Baseball in 1944.

I believe you are talking about Greg Hiltz and if I am not mistaken he went to the US Coast Guard Academy from CCH.

Probably missing some, but these are all that I can presently remember... maybe someone out there can help to add to this list???

Holy Cross (Covington)

Tim Volpenhein - EKU - (1999?)

Leighton Schrand - Xavier - (2016)

While being recruited by, and signing with West Virginia, Tyler Bezold (2016) ended up switching to Mount St. Joseph.

I am surprised we have not heard from:

The Highlands contingent:

Draud played at Vandy

Any others?

And Boone County:

Dinn played at Wright State

Although not "my school" as the title says. This player who has a birthday today (11-2) is the only person to ever win a championship in the NCAA, NBA, and ABA.
