Boyle vs Somerset was a great rivalry in that 1979-84 era. Every game was close and a break or two Econ the game.

Not entirely true. They got over the Bowling Green hump in 2009 and then ran into the Highlands buzzsaw. In 2008 they didn't even have to see Bowling Green, losing to Christian County instead.... who then were rocked by Highlands. The reality is that none of those teams 2007-2010 were going to beat Highlands. Now, 2011-2013, I wholeheartedly agree. As Hardin County Preps noted, 2012 in particular. They had that one. They really could have (maybe should have) had 2013 as well.

 

I played on the 2007 team and I like to tell myself we would’ve beat highlands but I agree with you we probably wouldn’t have beat them but was always just a play away from getting the chance to play them. Deff should’ve won in 2012

2002 Mason County has Lofton Grutza and several other studs. Had just moved up to 3A. Dominated eventual 2A champ Breathitt. Barely lost to Highlands in semifinals.

That was 2003. 2002 was the year Mason lost a couple of low scoring, defensive thrillers to Russell, and finished 11-2.

I think that was 1988 with Purdue Coach Jeff Brohm at quarterback for Trinity.

 

1989 School Year, but 1988 Football Season. either their 1st or 2nd series Jeff fumbled the football in Trinity Terriorty and Manual recovered it and they ruled him down and reversed it and Trinity never looked back.

2001 Missed Xpt in State Final to lose 14-13. Got the ball back but couldn't put it in.

2008 Lost state championship game on a QB throw back that Antonio Andrews used the joystick on to weave through the whole defense to lose by 3.

2011 QB sprained ankle in regular season loss to Beechwood and lost by 3 to eventual champ Holy Cross in Regional Final

In a well played game between both sides, man-child Derrick Kennedy FB and DL for BG did everything he could to get the Purples the victory. But Covington Catholic (looked like all 11 of their defenders) eventually stopped Kennedy at the 1 yard line. BG didn't have any timeouts left and the clock ran out.

94 and 95 Franklin-Simpson

 

That 94 BG team lost to FS in the regular season then beat them in the region title game. Each team overcame a double digit deficit to win. Still two of the best games I have ever seen. FS only loss was to Warren Central by one point until the region title game. BG led 20-17 late and FS had 1st and goal at the BG 3 but couldn't put it in the end zone. Went for the win instead of OT then BG ran out the clock.

 

In 95 FS lost only to Portland TN (who went on to the state semifinals that year) and gave BG's first undefeated state champions their closest game of the year, a 13-12 win at BG. FS who had reclassified to 2A that year, had a 14-0 lead on Breathitt County in the state title game before losing in double overtime.

Speaking of Newport, what about the 1985 Newport team?

 

Eric Lanthorne, Mike Pangallo, Billy Youell, not sure if Jimmy Roberts was on that team. Murphy had that team hitting on all cylinders.

St.X beat Boone 3-0. I was on side line for X as a back up. It was very cold. Kicked field goal in 4th quarter.

Thanks for the clarification. My cousin was the middle linebacker for Boone, I was living out west at the time, I was not at the game.
