2012 State Semi-final game between John Hardin and Bowling Green. Both came into this game undefeated. John dominated this game until the final minutes of the 4th quarter when Bowling Green scored on a hook and ladder on 4th and 15 from its own 35 yard line and then converted the 2 point conversion to win 14-13.

 

As a BG Fan, this is one of my ALL-TIME favorite games (although I truly feel for the Bulldog fans as they did dominate the mass majority of this game)! It was BITTER Cold! BG's QB Hayes didn't play his best game (5 for 17 for 106 yards 1 TD and 2 INTs - if you know anything about Devin Hayes - you know those #s aren't reflective of him), but the JH defense had something to do with that. The 2 key plays of that game that people forget about are:

 

1. When John Hardin scored their second (I think) TD, they lined up for the extra point. BG jumped offsides and put the ball at the 2.5 yard line. JH calls time and then sends in the offense with HUGE DT Jason Elam (STILL at UK) as the RB/FB. They give the ball to Elam and he is reportedly stopped short of the goal line, per the officials. However, to this day I'm sure there are Bulldog fans that say he broke the plane of the goal. As you see those 2 points turned out to be pretty valuable. I didn't have a good vantange point to call it one way or the other.

 

2. In the 2nd half with BG down 13-6, BG was driving and in JH territory. Hayes then throws an INT picked off by a speedy JH DB. He races down the Bulldog sideline. BG RB Blake Pillow darts across the field and somehow get the JH ball carrier down. If he doesn't make that play, the hook n' ladder doesn't mean anything.

 

To this day, when I pass the Joe Prather Highway exit (takes you to the North side of Etown) on I-65 I think of that game and that play. FANT!!!

Really hard to not think of 2002 Male HS. 56 points and 681 yards will normally win you a lot of ball games.

94' Boone County team was Alexander's Junior season. I believe lost to Trinity 3-0 at state.

 

1994 Boone lost to Trinity 21-0 or was it 21-7. Great game.

Im going with some local (to me) 1A schools that i feel were good enough to win state championship but fell short.

 

2003 Fairview Eagles- Went 11-1 with a second round home loss to runner-up Beechwood. The 2003 Eagles team was loaded with talent and featured an eventual NFL running back (Chris Jennings).

 

2006 Raceland Rams-Went 11-2 losing to eventual champions NCC in the third round at home. Raceland Dominated the First half of that game but got worn down in the second. the 2006 Rams had an explosive offense and a punishing defense.

1994 Boone lost to Trinity 21-0 or was it 21-7. Great game.
