Could this be the end of open air concerts?

 

Not that mass shootings haven’t happened in arenas but security is much easier to manage indoors than outdoors.

 

I'm waiting to find out if this was politically motivated violence. Country music tends to attract conservative minded folks, and from what I have heard so far, the shooter subscribed to liberal politics. Events that concentrate certain sections of the population, might need to have their security rethought.

I've read hear and other places about how accurate this guy was and that he must have had advanced training. I completely disagree. He is shooting a fully automatic weapon firing 600-700 rounds per minute (for about 11 minutes) into a tightly packed crowd of 22,000+ people. All he had to do was point and pull the trigger, it's honestly a miracle that he didn't hit more than 600 people with a set up like that and firing from a relatively short distance.

 

I'm not thinking he got of 6,000 to 7,000 rounds your count would indicate. Haven't heard all of the different videos where there is gun fire, but it seemed to be short bursts, quick break, and more short bursts. Looked like maybe a 50 shot clip in one of the guns pics I saw. As mentioned earlier, curious as to how many rounds he fired.

I don't think he got off that many either, my point was it didn't take any one with advanced training to hit 600 people in a crowd of 22,000. If it was AK rounds as some have said, he easily could have gotten several 2 for 1 shots.

Sorry. The problem with full auto AR or AK style guns is that: a) you go through rounds in the cartridge too fast and have to swap out often, b) even if you have a stack of cartridges and can swap out fast the barrel will heat up and possibly damage the gun and c) you lose accuracy in full auto (especially with AK).

 

There is not much use for full-auto if one is not trying to keep the targets from shooting back. 'Worthless' was an overstatement.

 

A number of people have tagged the weapon(s) used as M249 that shoots the 5.56. Some have said its possibly its cousin that fires the 7.62 - the M240.

 

A barrel heating up wouldn't have been an issue with the number of weapons found and you can change out a lot of magazines in 30 seconds. Ironically though, the m249 was what I first thought of when I had seen the original video's coming out along with the rate of fire and duration between reloading. The m249 has yet to be mentioned by investigators yet though. Just bump stop weapons.

Didn't realize that guy had 42 weapons he owned.

 

He did however have a history of liberal leanings and was very active in politics.

 

Thus far this guy hasn't shown a lot of political activity on any side. So I think it's a bit premature to call him a radicalized liberal or crazy conservative.

That's why I think he went with modifying 10 rifles. It doesn't appear he was a marksman. His aim was to get as many rounds out there as he could to inflict the greatest damage his skill set could provide.

 

Easier to switch rifles than to change barrels on 1 rifle.

Don't hold me to it, I'd have to go back and research to be sure but I think the press conference from the police yesterday afternoon said that 10 or so were modified with bump stocks. They didn't comment on how many were used.

One thing I would like to see in these mass shooting cases is the media use the shooter's name as little as possible. Once he is initially identified, I would like to see the person referred to as the shooter or some other name after the initial articles. I don't want people getting publicity off of these acts. Use the shooter's name as little as possible.
