Tropical Storm Irma

That's surprising. They were amazing to deal with when we had issues getting there (Sandals St. Lucia). Do they have a travel agent? We used one and it made everything so much easier.

No, they made the reservations themselves. Probanly should have used a travel agent. One lesson learned, do not buy vacation insurance recommended by the place you are visiting. Read their contract last night. So many exclusions, it is almost impossible to use the insurance. You pretty much have to die.

Any clue as to what the strength would be by the time it hit land near Hilton Head?

I was in HH last year, a week after a hurricaine. No damage was done. A local person told me that hurricaines almost never hit HH. Has something to do with the way that area is situated. May have been bull, but it made sense the way he explained it. Hope it is true. LOVE Hilton Head!

Hopefully, Irma will have calmed down quite a bit.

Gotcha. Yeah, those travel insurance contracts are pretty specific on what does and doesn't qualify.

Supposed to be heading there Wednesday. Fall trip was cancelled last year due to a hurricane.

I'm supposed to be there October 1. Crossing my fingers.

Drove to Atlanta last night/this morning from the Disney area. Traffic started getting really heavy a couple of miles before 75 on the turnpike. Once on 75, it was stop and go for a couple of hours. Then we came up on road crews repainting lines. Not sure who's bright idea that was, but it only hurt matters.

From the point we got on 75 past Valdosta, every gas station was completely overwhelmed and every rest area had more cars than it could ever hold, backing all the way up the interstate on the shoulder. Saw more people peeing on the sides of the road than I could count. The best way to describe it, is to imagine rush hour traffic in a major city that keeps having wrecks and broken down cars in it for 6 hours. Traffic as far as I could see in front of me and behind.

I spent the last two weeks of October last year in Hilton Head, specifically because of all the damage that occurred. Hurricane Matthew wrecked the island and it was only a category 2. If you are familiar with the island, Sea Pines Plantation was probably the hardest hit area, although the entire island was affected along with parts of the mainland such as Bluffton.

I've never seen so much tree debris in my life. I took the following photos, but they do not begin to do justice to show just how much tree debris was piled along almost every road on the island.

Which hurricane? Hurricane Matthew tore into the town and they had to evacuate. Wouldn't let owners in for a few days. My buddy had $40,000 in damage to his home. Trees down everywhere. Last year the first week of October. It was the first one to really hit HHI in a long time.

I have no idea if it is true or not, but I was told that Matthew was the first time that the island had taken a direct hit from a hurricane in about 100 years.

Well, I guess that was what he was talking about.

Hurricane Warnings are up for The Keys and for mainland Florida from Jupiter, just north of West Palm, on the east side of the state, to Bonita Springs, between Ft. Meyers and Naples.

What does that mean?

What does that mean?

It means there's a hurricane coming within 36 hours.

What does that mean?

From the National Hurricane Center...

A Hurricane Watch means that hurricane conditions are possible

within the watch area. A watch is typically issued 48 hours

before the anticipated first occurrence of tropical-storm-force

winds, conditions that make outside preparations difficult or

dangerous.

Looks like the Euro Model is now predicting landfall up the spine of Florida. This would mean the trail would be similar to Hurricane Donna in the 60s.
