September 6, 20179 yr I'd never even heard of Barbuda until this storm came along. Prayers to all in the path of Irma.
September 7, 20179 yr So, son and his wife were told by Sandals they had to reschedule their vacation in Antigua next week. They also bought vacation insurance. They pretty much wanted to get the money back via insurance as Sandals has been very difficult to deal with. Fine print in the insurance policy says that Sandals has to officially say it is uninhabitable or they won't pay. Sandals refuses to do this, but yet tell them they cannot go there.

Remind me never to patronize Sandals.
September 7, 20179 yr This would put Savannah, Tybee Island, and Hilton Head in the crosshairs! And I have a conference in Savanna in November. Well, supposed to.
September 7, 20179 yr Well we can check evacuating Florida because of a hurricane off the ole bucket list. This is absolutely insane.
September 7, 20179 yr Author 2:00 am update for NHC Irma is still a cat 5 hurricane with sustained winds at 180 mph. It is moving west northwest at 16 mph.

That's surprising. They were amazing to deal with when we had issues getting there (Sandals St. Lucia). Do they have a travel agent? We used one and it made everything so much easier.
September 7, 20179 yr I know Any clue as to what the strength would be by the time it hit land near Hilton Head?
September 7, 20179 yr Any clue as to what the strength would be by the time it hit land near Hilton Head?Cat 3 was the last prediction I saw. That's a long way off though so it will probably change.
September 7, 20179 yr Cat 3 was the last prediction I saw. That's a long way off though so it will probably change. Supposed to be heading there Wednesday. Fall trip was cancelled last year due to a hurricane.

Just took a quick clance at GFS looks like it will be a cat 3. That's from the latest GFS model run.
September 7, 20179 yr I hope everyone in this storm's path heed the warnings. A group of us was in Myrtle Beach for golf about a couple weeks after Hugo struck there in 1989. It's amazing what those storms can do. The beach sand was for the most part gone and all the beach front hotels had bottom floor water damage. I saw a Volkswagen Beetle car floating in a hotel swimming pool.
