September 5, 20179 yr Author Latest info from the National Hurricane Center on Irma 11:00 am EDT Irma is moving toward the west near 14 mph, and this general motion is expected to continue today, followed by a turn toward the west-northwest tonight. Irma is an extremely dangerous hurricane. Reports from an Air Force Hurricane Hunter aircraft indicate that the maximum sustained winds are near 180 mph with higher wind gusts. Hurricane force winds now extend outward up to 60 miles from the center and tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 160 miles. Everyone in hurricane prone areas should be making final preparations as quickly as possible.
September 5, 20179 yr Oh, BTW, there is a tropical disturbance in the Gulf off the coast of Mexico with a 70% chance of being a cyclone by Saturday. Right behind Irma is another topical disturbance that has a 90% chance developing into something worse by Thursday morning.
September 5, 20179 yr Not used to hearing wind gusts upwards of 200 mph. This storm has become a monster. Prayers to all in its path. Just a matter of time before folks will have to build a "fortress" to live along the coast or for that matter the entire state of Florida! Be careful folks and heed the warnings. I'll be praying for the swamprat clan. We also have family in the Sarasota area and they are considering heading North soon!!! It is my sincere hope Irma gets pushed eastward and remains offshore...:thumb:

September 5, 20179 yr I'm not sure what you could build other than a bunker that will sustain 200 MPH. Concrete houses maybe? Be smart and stay safe those of you who live down there. Probably a good idea to head out and be on the safe side.
