September 6, 20179 yr My beautiful St. Maarten has been pounded by Irma! :arghh: We where just there in June. Very sad. Beautiful place, friendly people.
September 6, 20179 yr I'm not sure what you could build other than a bunker that will sustain 200 MPH. That would be a good way to drown.
September 6, 20179 yr Just heard an update by Rueters regarding the keys potentially being entirely under water due to storm surges. I would have been gone yesterday if i lived in the keys. These folks have to have contingency plans based on situations like this. If not, i suppose they're the ones we'll read about in the aftermath. My cousins in Tampa/St. Pete are ready for bear and feel ready to handle water fine. Their concern will be wind in a second story condo. They chose to sit tight considering the more recent forecast keeping the eye on the Atlantic side. Moving inland to a friends home only puts them in higher winds. Now i get to worry about my sisters in Atlantic Beach NC ( which faces due south ) if Irma chooses to move up the Atlantic coast. Really hoping this storm loses strength soon!!! They'll eventually evacuate inland towards Lexington, NC if need be. I just worry about when, and them getting caught in evacuation route traffic. The southern outer banks and crystal coast only have two ways out and in! Over 5000 navy folks are evacuating the keys and less than 50 will remain. All planes and helicopters are traveling inland. Even submarines from our Georgia base are moving out of harms way. South Florida and the keys are expecting a hit similar to what Hurricane Andrew did back in the early 90s...and that was BRUTAL!!! Prayer once again to all in this storms path!
September 6, 20179 yr The GFS is almost spot on with the track map the NHC has put out. This would put Savannah, Tybee Island, and Hilton Head in the crosshairs!

September 6, 20179 yr This would put Savannah, Tybee Island, and Hilton Head in the crosshairs! I've been praying for everyone in the path. It is a scary storm. I have a lot of family in Savannah area. I pray this monster turns further east and back out to sea.
