September 5, 20179 yr This thing is so well developed on satellite and radar that it doesn't even look real. I was thinking the same thing, it looks like one you would see simulated for a weather brief or in a movie.

September 5, 20179 yr At lunch, I went to Costco to supplement my canned goods supply. They were already out of water, batteries, and generators. Plenty of canned goods, though. Lowe's is out of propane, the one thing I could use.

September 5, 20179 yr Author Irma is currently bigger than the state of Ohio. 405 miles West to East, 392 miles North to South. Geezus that thing is a monster. My Aunt and Unlce are down in Myrtle Beach now and were supposed to head to Florida. Looks like the Florida trip won't be happening. As of this morning, Irma is the strongest hurricane in the Atlantic basin outside of the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico in National Hurricane Center records.
September 5, 20179 yr My cousins in FL just posted this forecast track. Powerhouse hurricane Irma now has... - FOX 13's Paul Dellegatto | Facebook Thought this was an interesting take on things... Powerhouse hurricane Irma now has sustained winds of 180 mph. There is no change in the forecast track. The important points are that there is still a wide range of tracks the storm can take as it approaches Florida. A hurricane passing east of us is preferred over a storm passing over us or to our west. I am getting a lot of questions asking about when we should evacuate. You only evacuate to escape storm surge flooding from the Gulf and Bay. It is why we have evacuation zones near the Gulf and Bay. You do not evacuate from the wind unless you live in a mobile home. Water is the killer. Wind is not. You run from water. You hide from wind. We can not evacuate the state based on the fact there may be strong winds. Given the options you would be better off riding out a storm in a well built home, out of an evacuation zone, then trying to drive up I-75 to a motel in Valdosta. You do not want to become part of the caravan driving up I-75. Trust me. It is a miserable option. You should continue your hurricane plan and stay with us for updates on Irma's track! September 5, 20179 yr Author The GFS model has Tropical Storm Jose as a category 3 Hurricane by the middle of next week. I will be switching mainly to the GFS model because I believe it has a good handle on these systems. The Canadian/GDPS doesn't in my opinion. It still has Irma as a cat 1 hurricane going into the gulf next week. While the track could be good I'm not in agreement what it is showing on the strength of these storms.
