September 9, 20179 yr Author Winds down to 130 and Cat 4 with the latest advisory. Most think it will strengthen again before it hits Florida. While there will be a chance for strengthening as Irma passes over the warm water of the Florida straights the latest forecast discussion has westerly wind shear developing in about 24 hours that may dampen the strengthing of Irma. It will still be a very dangerous hurricane without much intensification.

Irma is moving slowly northwestward toward the lower Florida Keys at near 6 mph. A turn toward the north-northwest with an increase in forward speed is expected through late Monday.
