September 10, 20179 yr Author Just got home from Bowling Green a little while ago. I'll be posting updates especially on our twitter page. Tornadoes are also a big threat from Irma.
September 10, 20179 yr Author Irma is sucking the water out of the bays on the west coast of Florida.
September 10, 20179 yr Just looked at a closeup of the south Florida radar and it looks like the eye will pass directly over Marco Island within an hour. Growing up we used to vacation in the Naples/Marco area every year, a 10-15 foot storm surge is going to be devastating to those areas. Edited September 10, 20179 yr by JDEaston

September 10, 20179 yr Estimated landfall at Marco Island is 2:46 pm. Just seen this on a Fort Myers tv station. The southern tip of Marco Island has a lot of condo's and houses that sit very close to the Gulf as well as a lot of canals and such that lead from the Gulf to the interior portions of the Island. That's one of the things I love about Marco but I suspect it's going to be the Islands downfall in this hurricane. I wouldn't be surprised if the entire island doesn't become submerged at some point during this storm.

September 10, 20179 yr Watched CBS coverage this AM. Nothing like putting your oldest reporter in the worst conditions in Miami. Guy was getting pounded by wind and rain. It's surreal watching the coastal areas where the water has been blown back out to sea. I really hope the storm surge predictions for Marco Island and Naples region are incorrect.

Me too, Marco in particular will not be able to handle a large storm surge like that. The downtown Naples area (5th Avenue) would likely be under water as well.
September 10, 20179 yr Swampie! Update us. How are you? I heard from him a little while ago. He said there was a tornado warning around 1:00. Wind was picking up blowing debris around, was concerned about what was hitting the house. In typical swamprat fashion, he did tell me the bourbon has been secured.
