Highlands' schedule for next year (2007)

Featured Replies

And I'm not so sure we don't beat CC if McGraw "the LAW" was patrolling the secondary. He's that much of an impact athelete!

Come on man, a safety would have won you the game?

From previous posts on here, I thought the reason CCH won the 2nd game was because of shanked punts, and shanked punts only. Zero offensive production had nothing to do with it?

If there was a common ground for the schools that day, CCH's top DB Castaneda didn't suit up either.

I saw Simpson play a few times his freshman year, and there is no doubt he is very skilled. Will there be a QB who can get him the ball though?

Agreed...the HHS kicking game was deplorable...but even with the lack of field position The true HHS weakness this year was the defensive backfield. No "dis" to the State Champs...they EARNED the title!

Have you ever heard the last name of Guidugli?????:thumb:

Try this on for size. Guidugli at QB, Cecil at TB, Ball at FB, Simpson and Draper at WR Stein at TE. On the defensive side you already have a great linebacker corps but if you add Newman or Hickman to the starting backers and move Hurtt to Db wow! They will have to fill in for a couple of graduated DBs but there are several that should be able to step up like Bathiany, Reed, Simpson maybe even Cecil...

I think the only question mark is going to be filling in the lines on both sides of the ball.

Could be a very nice team next year!

Or even better yet (in my mind:ylsuper:) and assuming Simpson and McGraw play: G at qb in the gun; Conner and Crawford as the two backs; Stine at te at times; Cecil, Simons, Simpson and Draper at wide outs ( obviously only three of them can be used without te's and only two of them when using a te) and we really spread the D out, thus allowing the inexperienced line to perform better. Other than Hempling and Downling, who knows at this point who the other linemen will be. Lots of good candidates though.

On D, you have McGraw at safety; Bathiany at one corner, Simpson at the other; Cecil and Simons at olb; Hurtt, Ball and Fitz at ilb; Stine and Jurgens at de; Rosenhagen or Funara at nose.

Results in a very, very nice football team.

If Simpson does not play, Collinsworth plays some of the wide receiver and he or Carothers takes the corner spot. If McGraw does not play, Cecil plays safety, Fitz goes to olb and Newmann takes the ilb spot. Not quite as strong, but still a very, very nice football team.

I really think at the skill positions HHS will be as strong as they have been in an awful long time.......:ylsuper:

Highlands had approached Trigg County, who had the same open weeks, and offered to come to Trigg in back-to-back years for either a cut of the gate or a stipend. Trigg filled their open spots with Fort Campbell and Christian County.

Highlands always has great talent; it all comes down to the QB position about whether or not they will be an elite Highlands team!

I completely overlooked Conner and Crawford in the backfield. Wow, this team will be strong! As for the line, Ball and Newman could step in easily on either side of the ball.

I had hinted at this earlier. Someone from Hopkinsville told me Highlands might have been making two long trips to west Kentucky just to fill out their schedule

If Highlands was having trouble filling out the schedule, why are there no Ohio teams again? It seems CovCath has two on the schedule for next year.

Again?
Again?

Yes, again as to the reason why there are no Ohio teams on the 2007 schedule, not why doesn't Highlands play Ohio teams. Earlier an explanation was given that it may be hard for Ohio teams to schedule Ky teams with possible new rules going into effect for Harbin points, but I know Cincy X, Cincy Elder, and Cincy LaSalle all seem to have scheduled Kentucky schools for 2007. It really doesn't matter, just curious.

All sounds nice but what about some of those quick strong guys like Ball, Hurtt, Stein and Newman moving to the Line? I think it would help the team tremendously. I am sure it is probably not what they envisioned when they put the Highlands gear on their Freshman year but you have to have a line to win a State Championship. Filling the gaps left by this year's outstanding group will be tough if you don't start considering moving your most athletically gifted and strong guys to the line and starting there.

The skill positions we are fine , especially if McGraw and Simpson consider playing. Crawford is a tough little cookie and can carry the ball as well. Throw in Conner and Cecil back there and I think you have a formidable backfield.
