Is this evidence of an attack on free speech?

Recommended Posts

I won't agree with this. I don't think a majority on the left agree with this. I just think to many are silent on these ideas and allow them to grow. To many fear getting labeled if they speak against.

The left is being hijacked by the new alt left. Just as the right let the alt right speak for the party by not denouncing them. Silence is consent. Most on both sides fall in the middle spectrum. The fringe radicals are a problem for both sides. We must have the courage to speak up against the zealots.

I don't think liberals are in a position to dictate who are the " respectful " voices of conservatism. No more than a conservative telling you who you should be listening to. Censorship is up to the individual, not the opinion of others.

Alright...are these two modern conservative voices?

:ohbrother:

Who's next David Duke ?

The administration needs to question the incendiary voices they are inviting in.

FWIW There are liberal speakers I would believe shouldn't be invited to speak at a public university.

Sure allow David Duke to speak, allow any and all to speak. The best way to shutdown bad ideas is to allow them to speak and allow them to sound like morons. Shutting down speech you don't like is the exact opposite of America is and should be.

I don't particularly like Coulter, Milo on the other hand I find intelligent, honest, but brutal in his delivery. Take it or leave it but I appreciate his openness and willingness to say it despite the PC generations protesting. I respect everyones right to speak to an audience who wants to hear or debate them. Bad ideas and speakers will fade away. Let the people decide.

We will agree to disagree. I can't see any university president in America allowing Duke on campus or should they.

It's only too PC if you're not offended.

Do bad ideas fade away?

They are being 1000% more honest than the left. They are backing their " opinion" up with civil discussion. What is the left doing to get their points acrossed? Let me answer my own question, riots, threats, assaults, fascism at it's finest.

Excellent. You are marching perfectly in step. Keep selling it and people begin to believe it. Every incident that you don't like, blow it up and label your opponents the way you want them labeled. No reason to change now. This strategy has been working well for the radical right since 1994.

Of course, pay no attention to the peaceful, civil protests and marches this year by millions across the United States on a variety of topics. Who are those people marching getting their points across in a civil manner? They can't be the liberal left, can they?

There were some peaceful protests. Let's not act like there weren't just as many riotous protests, mainly by the Left.

How many riots were started for right wing politics by right wingers? While there were some leftist peaceful protests, the massages are often curse laced filled rants. How many right wingers stand and burn the AMERICAN flag? Are you denying all the violence that has occurred? The people speaking for the left right now are less than classy. They have been hijacked by anarchists. I don't march in anybody's steps. I am far from a follower. Nothing ABOUT my life screams follower. The truth hurts and I call them like I see them. The only message I keep hearing from the left is how much they hate.

I don't think there were as many violent protests as there were peaceful protests. I am not ignoring violent protests or actions by liberal protesters. The main point I am making is there have been many more non-violent protesters and protests than violent ones, but FTN and others infer ALL liberals and liberal protesters are violent.

Both sides like to take an incident by some and turn it into an indictment of all, but the radical right seems more focused and prolific in doing this.

I never said all liberal protests were violent. I said all the violent protest have been liberals. There's a difference.

Couldn't disagree more.

Exactly what protests were you watching? Violence by many more Leftist protesters. Looting, blocking traffic, mayhem.

All Leftist protests violent, nope. More than Right leaning protests, however.

Were you paying attention?

I would say my biggest beef is the lack of leaders on the left willing to condemn those responsible for the riots. Out of fear for being out of touch. The legitimate protestors continue to allow specific groups to participate for the apperance of inclusiveness. But on the other hand will try to shutdown or silence those on the right.

We all know who these groups are on the left. They have appeared at most major protest. The groups that promote Socialist or Communist state and those that openly support anarchy. I say it before every major Left movement I'm willing to listen but as soon as those groups get involved I'm done listening.

I said earlier in this thread I don't think a large majority on the left agree with the destructive behavior. It's the silence from those in leadership positions that anger me. Everyone in leadership at Berkley should be ashamed.
