You are trying to make it black and white when I'm pointing out reasons that the head of the school may have to cancel. That's not being obtuse. That's showing what it's like for the person who has the responsibility of the entire university vs us sitting on the sidelines.

Berkeley is an extremely liberal campus. Coulter is offensive. We aren't talking about a respectable voice of conservatism.

The point you are missing is you are playing the "what if" game with this. There was no bomb threat. Protesters threatened to disrupt and the President folded like cheap lawn furniture in a wind storm. No backbone. This is the second time for this guy.

I think my point and your point can work together. I agree safety should be important but we cannot allow anarchist to dictate free speech. Suitable saftey measures should be put in place. They had weeks to do such for this event. After past riots on campus it should not come as a shock. But if you can not guarantee speeches of all viewpoints then there should be no such speeches allowed

I don't think liberals are in a position to dictate who are the " respectful " voices of conservatism. No more than a conservative telling you who you should be listening to. Censorship is up to the individual, not the opinion of others.

I find socialist, communist, anti-capitilist, and pro Palestinian speakers to be offensive. But I respect their right to speak. But these liberal students won't be rioting when speakers I listed speak even though their agendas are anti-American .

I won't agree with this. I don't think a majority on the left agree with this. I just think to many are silent on these ideas and allow them to grow. To many fear getting labeled if they speak against.

FWIW There are liberal speakers I would believe shouldn't be invited to speak at a public university.
