HammerTime
Bob NightengaleVerified account @BNightengale If the #Twins indeed pass on Hunter Greene, the #Reds plan to grab him at No 2 while #Padres would love to have him at No
HammerTime
We could really use Winker hitting #2 to get on base when Hamilton grounds out 70% of the time. No spot for him to play really.
HammerTime
Tyler Stephenson (A) - .287/.400/.835 with 3 HR, 28 RBI, 19 BBs. This one really excites me. He's finally healthy and showing why he was drafted so high.
UKMustangFan
Not a lot has changed on the draft front. We're inside of two weeks until the draft and the Reds appear set to select between HS RHP Hunter Greene and Louisville's two-way stud Brandon McKay. The Twins are said to be leaning towards Vanderbilt's RHP Kyle Wright (IMO the best prospect in the draft) which would mean the Reds would have to decide between their top two. It's now being rumored that the Reds prefer McKay as a hitter as opposed to on the mound, which I think is smart. His drop in velocity and control as the season has worn on has to be concerning when you're talking a top 2-3 pick.
HammerTime
Shed Long and Senzel are hitting well in Dayton. I'd expect to see Long promoted in the near future.

You gonna leave him sit in the minors until he is 28 years old? High school stud makes more sense between the two.

Imo the power will never come around for Winker. I would love to see a player in the Red's lineup that doesn't swing and miss at least once a game but if he starts swinging for the fences that is what will happen. I honestly don't think the Reds have a clue what to do with this kid. He's going to be 24 years old this summer and he doesn't have to prove that he can hit at AAA. If you're organization is in need of bats, you take the best one available, regardless of position. Those kind of things tend to work themselves out in baseball. He's left handed and a first baseman, you going to move him to the outfield? They made that mistake before with Yonder Alonzo.

It typically works itself out. Votto may not play out the entirety of his contract. McKay may end up moving to the OF, unlike Alonso he's got the power and athleticism for it. He may get in and they realize his future is on the mound. Lots of variables. If you view him as the best player for your needs, you take him. Obviously not a long term solution, but if you can even consider that at the MLB level, why wouldn't you let McKay pitch in a rotation and DH/1B on other days as he works his way through the minor league system. If you really see him as a hitter, concerns about injury while pitching are minimal. If you see him as a SP, you might be a LITTLE more concerned with him batting and playing the field.
