Six doses of Narcan needed to revive man found unconscious in ca - Cincinnati News, FOX19-WXIX TV

MIDDLETOWN, OH (FOX19) -

Medics had to use six doses of Narcan to revive a suspected overdose victim Sunday night, according to court documents filed in Middletown.

Brandon Colwell was found slumped over in a vehicle in the 3300 block of Tytus Avenue. He was breathing but unresponsive, officials wrote in a police report.

After the fire department administered six units of Narcan, Colwell “regained slight consciousness, however, was still slurring words and unable to identify where he was at,” documents state.

Narcan, also known as naloxone, is supposed to instantly reverse an overdose. However, the common antidote has not been enough to treat a potent combination of heroin and carfentanil.

The powerful opioid, which is intended for sedating large animals, has been found in local supplies of heroin within the past year. It can take several doses of Narcan to revive a carfentanil OD victim.

Officials did not say whether Colwell could have used heroin laced with carfentanil.

Colwell was transferred to the hospital where he told police he did not take anything, according to the police report.

He is charged with disorderly conduct to wit intoxication.

We give Narcan out for free to every drug user, but charge an outrageous amount of money to save our kids if they have a bad allergic reaction. This world is crazy messed up.

Never connected those dots...but by gosh you're right!
