Things that make you go hmmmmmmm

I don't care if Mercer has 100 kids or 1000 kids... all that will matter come playoff time is 11 vs. 11.... the best 11 will win.

That being said... if Russell faces Belfry or Russell.... they are going to find 11 very good players who might not have the same individual speed but definately the same or better team speed. I feel it's being lost in the fray that although Russell is a fantastic running team they still haven't hsown signs of a passing game. Both the Devils and the Pirates have pretty good backfields too... but even better defenses.

I in no way was slamming the Mercer County BOE. I did not claim that was the main reason and definately not the only reason. I was just saying I bet it was mentioned.

What cost is there to the consolidation? Very little I would speculate at this point. Same amount of kids in the county, same number of buildings being used. Same amount of buses and bus routes. Same amount of teachers. I'm not trying to be smart, but what cost has the quick consolidation created?

There would def be costs in merging everything into one identiity (as in business) and making sure all the infrastructure matches. It sounds easy but I am sure there is major changes that arent skin deep.

I believe that Middlesboro is one of the smallest 2A schools that there is in the state and seems like they always do pretty good.

Russell has a pretty good passing game this year.Russell Passing Jones 7-10 for 131 yards, Cordle 1-1 for 18 yards

Is that for one game or for the season?

1 game

Is that for one game or for the season?

For the season Tyler Jones is 17 -32 for 371 yards 3 TDs and 1 INT...

So they're averaging about 8 attempts a 4 completions for 45 or so yards a game. I'm guessing that since they've only had 1 close game they haven't had to throw much. How did they do against Ashland?

They didn't throw much against Ashland. Traps from the wing-t, iso and sweep from the power I. Basically just lined up and said here it comes.

IMO had they mixed things up more that would have been a different game. Coach McGlone always gears things for later in the year. With a younger offensive line the focus was on assignments within the running game.

I think that they could have beat Boyle without the merger.
Maybe they could, but we'll never know. Mercer beat Boyle 27-14 ... is it possible that the infusion of talent from Harrodsburg has made the new Mercer a couple of touchdowns better than the old Mercer?

If they were undefeated at this stage of there schedule which I believe they would be,then I say they have earned a spot at #1 State ranking.I don't believe that they are #1 in the state.I believe St X is.
No one is claiming that Mercer is the best team in the state. They are ranked #1 in Class 2A.
Its not false or misleading. If people are going to argue about enrollment you dont get to be selective about it. FACT NKY 4A teams have gotten pounded by schools with lower and sometimes HALF of their enrollment.
You're being just as selective by citing Beechwood and Highlands as examples. There are plenty of examples the other way ... Simon Kenton over Holy Cross and Lloyd, Ryle over Newport Catholic.

And the more kids from which you have to select, the better 11 you can find ...

As I stated last spring, the consolidation's effect on Mercer was the same as if 10 or 15 players with significant varsity experience transferred in to the school. That certainly would be viewed as having a substantial impact on Mercer's fortunes.

Yes I am sure about the past 10 years or so, nobody played up in class. I always get the year wrong, but I think it was 1995 when they stopped that practice, although it could have been 1999.

With the new alignment next year, the KHSAA allowed teams to petition for the chance to play up. Highlands and CCH were among the handful that were granted permission, and both will be playing in 5A in 2007.

Thank you for your input.

Or teams could just build themselves a program like Highlands or Beechwood and stop crying about a few hundered kids. I guess it is much easier the other way.

There are so many different directions to go with this statement. Comparing Highlands and Beechwood and the program they have built to a county merger is apples and oranges. Not even close to being in the same ballpark.
