In my opinion Mercer would have the same record they have now without the merger.Mercer was a very good football team last year with a execellent coach:thumb:

So let me see if I can understand all this.

1) There has been talk for several years in Mercer County to merge the two schools.

2) Mercer County is in the process of building a new high School facility that will be state of the art and be able to house children from the entire county.

3) They completed the merger over the summer with the understanding they would receive additional funding from the state.

4) However, although they have in effect did away with Harrodsburg High School with the merger, because the new school is not completed yet, all students still attend school in the same buildings they did last year.

5) So the technicality, is the merger. It arrears the only thing that has merged at this point is the athletic program. And probably the school board.

Am I way out in left field on this?

I am under the same impression you are.

I think just to point out that Mercer SHOULD be doing this with the advantage that they have. Are you trying to say that this is some kind of miracle that has no explanation. You know what everyone that knows any thing about football can see what is going on here. I'm glad Mercer and H'burg have been able to get along and I'm sure they have a fine team. However, they should no more be able to play class 2A than Highlands should get to play class 1A. You know what? I think Highlands would actually decline to play for a title against smaller teams, but I guess that's just them.....

I think that in this case your opinion is fact, since Highlands has petitioned to play up 2 levels next year in 5A.

True, but Boyle County wasn't on the old Mercer County schedule. Would the Scotties have been able to beat Boyle without the infusion of talent from Harrodsburg? And would the Scotties have been impressive enough to earn a #1 state ranking?
Not haters, just realists. They don't let Russell or Bowling Green play for the 1A title. Mercer shouldn't get to play for the 2A title when they aren't a 2A school. Make all the schedule nightmare excuses you want--I'm sure most teams would rather scramble for a non-district game than have to find players to compete in the playoffs with a team that has 300 more students.

Tell all this enrollment stuff to the NKY 4A who has gotten spanked by 3a,2a, and even 1a teams this year. They evidently dont realize that teams with a higher enrollment are supposed to win.

The reason for the merger right away was HHS's super was retiring and they voted to merge with MC. MC then accepted the merger and rolled ALL extra activities into one school to help with costs and be able to offer more sports and activities. Like I said ALL extra activities...band, drama, science club, etc. I dont think the decision was made so "we can have a one year football advantage over 2A, especially RUSSELL".

First off, the 3A and 1A teams you are talking about are not the run of the mill teams They are Highlands and Beechwood. Both teams are ranked #2 in their respective classes. CCH would be the other 3A team to score a victory over 4A NKY, they are ranked #3 just behind Highlands. The 2A school I guess is Lloyd who got destroyed by Simon Kenton. Ryle handily beat NCC too. So not all teams have faired badly, just some, and against the cream of the crop of their respective classes. Your statement is false and misleading.

Maybe more are being offered, but some kids will be hurt by this merger. Example, I am guessing the varsity basketball teams each had 12 players. Now Mercer's new combined basketball team will probably still have 12 players on its roster. Will it be a better product? Probably, but there will be 12 kids going to school that will not get to play basketball that would have if there were two separate schools.

As for the "one year advantage" I would say that this did in fact have an impact on the decision. Why? Ha Ha, Not because of Russell (or Belfry or Western), but Again the all mighty dollar. The better the football team, the more people attend, the more money is made. It's unbelievable how much money is made on a good football team. Now of course, this money is generally what keeps a lot of the other programs afloat financially, but it still is an impact.

I am SURE it COST much more for the quick consalidation than they are going to make off this 1 season. I think you need to give the administration a little more credit than that.

Its not false or misleading. If people are going to argue about enrollment you dont get to be selective about it. FACT NKY 4A teams have gotten pounded by schools with lower and sometimes HALF of their enrollment.

I think that they could have beat Boyle without the merger. If they were undefeated at this stage of there schedule which I believe they would be,then I say they have earned a spot at #1 State ranking.I don't believe that they are #1 in the state.I believe St X is.

I in no way was slamming the Mercer County BOE. I did not claim that was the main reason and definately not the only reason. I was just saying I bet it was mentioned.

What cost is there to the consolidation? Very little I would speculate at this point. Same amount of kids in the county, same number of buildings being used. Same amount of buses and bus routes. Same amount of teachers. I'm not trying to be smart, but what cost has the quick consolidation created?

The merger was extremely difficult for the two communities. Their was alot of bitter feelings. Whats funny however is the fact that the more these type of debates occur on here the closer this team and this school and community become.
