For the record ...

I am probably the first person that mentioned this issue when the Mercer County-Harrodsburg consolidation became a hot topic this summer.

My stated feeling at the time was that Mercer would enjoy an advantage because of the enrollment of the two combined schools, yet that there was little the KHSAA could do about it except to mandate that the two schools (Harrodsburg and Mercer) field separate teams if the students were housed in separate buildings. My feelings haven't changed in any aspect.

I also suspect that the prospective advantage was one reason Mercer fans were so eager to field a consolidated team this season. What has transpired so far is pretty much of what some of us expected ... that Mercer is a legitimate state contender, perhaps due in part to the numbers advantage they currently enjoy.

.......These are 2 teams getting to play down in class dominating smaller teams--they're nothing special, that's what we're saying. You should win, you have everything in your favor--tell me I'm wrong.

That's the motive of this thread. Period. You can put a pretty ribbon on this hog, but it still stinks.

If you feel that is a certain poster's motive, then state it clearly ... you have every right. But don't ascribe the same motive to everyone that holds a view of the issue that is different than yours.

I remember your first posts and respect your thoughts.

However, when all the talking and "discussion" is over with...at the end of the day it is about high school kids busting their tails for months....I don't care what program they are from or what their enrollment numbers are, or what their win/loss record is....they don't deserve to think that what they worked so hard for was .."nothing special" or tainted in any way. Let 'em play. If you don't like it...root for another team. Just don't try to take away from these kids.

And yet are we wrong? These 2 teams should be dominating the class that they're getting to play in on a technicality. The facts are this, neither of these teams would legally be able to play in their current class according to current enrollment numbers. However, due to an administrative oversight (how else do you explain teams getting to play with an unfair advantage--you don't see 1A teams being eligible for the 1AA playoffs) or just general laziness they're getting to play against smaller schools. Go on, dominate the teams that you shouldn't even get to play. We'll see what happens when you play in your own class. NO ONE can deny that Mercer and Western have an advantage. They shouldn't lose, at all in their class. And yet I have a feeling that Russell still isn't scared--just like I'm sure Mercer wouldn't be scared to play Highlands for both the 2 and 3A titles, after all if Mercer is allowed to play for the 2A title shouldn't Highlands? Why not just have a winner take all game--Mercer you'd be up for it wouldn't you?

How much clearer do you want it buddy?

THAT IS THE MOTIVE OF THIS THREAD....PERIOD!

I don't think anyone is trying to sugar coat it, we're just stating facts. :sssh:

Again, no one is criticizing the players on Mercer County's football team or anyone else in the program.

Feel better now?

At the same time, you also questioned my motive for being in this discussion.

Hey, I don't remember all the whining when Boyle won their first title in AA when they had AAA #'s. And if they did whine then Boyle didn't care. They were the AA champions. So if Mercer wins they will care less what people on the outside will think. If your team gets smacked by Mercer this year then I'm sorry.

I don't think anyone is trying to sugar coat it, we're just stating facts. :sssh:

Thanks....for validating my point.

Can someone explain just how Mercer is getting to play in AA. Honest question just wanting an answer. I remember a few years back when Letcher County Central was opened they went straight into AAA. I believe they were consolidated from a AA and a A school. Just wondering why they werent allowed to play in AA that year and Mercer is now. Not trying to stir anything up just looking for an answer.

Bring it..

You can bet Russell or Belfry will bring it if the time comes im already sick of this Mercer talk and im sure the rest of the Devils are. Your doing nothing but making the fire larger.

Bring it..

Let's see Danville over Southwestern by 3. Danville over Boyle by 2. Mercer over Boyle by 13. Highlands over Southwestern 49-0 at the half. Highlands over Mercer in a 3A playoff game. If Mercer were playing in their class, by a whole bunch, say 35.

Mercer and Harrodsburg merged in june. Take both teams schedules and try to make a new schedule with 3A teams this year. Plus, let the schools on their schedule already take the money loss cause they merged and that's one of the reason's that teams aren't re-classified during the same year. It's been this way for ever but their hasn't been a merge in the state since Mason co Maysville back in the early 90's.
