Things that make you go hmmmmmmm

Classless. That sums your post up. And to anyone else who seems to think this was all planned for football. If that's the case then they would have done it a long time ago when the talent was even greater.
Not true.

Mercer County didn't make the decision to merge systems ... Harrodsburg did when it decided to close shop. Once that happened, Mercer had no choice but to absorb the Harrodsburg students into their system.

From that point, it was Mercer's decision whether to keep both schools open or "combine" them in separate buildings.

I'm not saying that football was a motivation for doing it the way they did ... I'm not around the situation, therefore I'm not qualified to say one way or the other.

If it was, Mercer probably wouldn't be the first school system to take athletics into account.

The story goes that years ago, a western Kentucky school board was discussing whether or not to consolidate all the schools in the system into one high school. The board was supposedly divided until someone suggested that the new school would allow them to field a "county all-star team."

Classless. That sums your post up. And to anyone else who seems to think this was all planned for football. If that's the case then they would have done it a long time ago when the talent was even greater. Mercer would have had a state title contender this year just like they had last year with or without the merge. They returned alot from the 10-2 team from last season. Mercer County is a respected school system. They are working their butts off to make sure all these kids from k-12 get to and from school and recieve everything they need to get a proper education. And after all their efforts people want to assume that all of this is because of football. Below the belt. This will be a farewell tour for alot of AA schools. Either way it will be fun come playoff time. Bash on Mercer then.

Don't be so thin skinned. All I'm saying is there is a great oportunity here for Mercer. Like you said Mercer would have had a state Title contender without the Burg. Just how many kids from the Burg are starters on the team? That will tell it all.

I believe someone said earlier that about 1/2 of the starters were from Harrodsburg, I believe they put it 50/50......

First, I think that is a riduculous statment...that they would push this to "Cherry Pick" a football championship.

Second, lets say they waited till next year. The new classifications are up and MC is in its new 3 or 4a class and then merge. Well they would be in the class until the next turn...and people would be on hear saying the same things.

My post was merely summarizing the overall perception of the public at large. Generally, the merger of schools is something that is planned for well ahead of time, not jumped into in a rush and pushed to become reality 3 months before the start of the school year, which appears to be the case with Mercerburg. Secondly, when the students are all housed in different buildings, county schools still have separate teams. Look around at Boone County, Fayette, Harlan, etc. These are all county wide school systems with multiple high schools each with separate sports teams. Even if this merger HAD to be done in such a rushed fashion, why not run it as other counties do and wait until the new facilities are ready before consolidating the two into one? While I would certainly hope and expect a merger such as this was not precipitated by some adults hunger for athletic achievement, one does have to wonder why the decision was made to combine teams when it doesn't appear to have been necessary...hmmmmmmmm

Must have been some infusion of talent since Mercer already "...returned alot from the 10-2 team..."

8 starters on defense are from 2005 Mercer and on offense it's about 50/50 with Mercer losing their entire offensive line from last year.
