Things that make you go hmmmmmmm

There are so many different directions to go with this statement. Comparing Highlands and Beechwood and the program they have built to a county merger is apples and oranges. Not even close to being in the same ballpark.

I wasnt comparing Mercer to Highlands or Beechwood I said the teams complaining about Mercer should build themselves a program like Highlands or Beechwood.

Or Danville.

I say go for it Mercer, this may be your year to shine. I'm sure you will find the going a little tougher in 5A next year.

That's for sure. From district play to the playoffs 5A will be much tougher. If the kids keep coming out and I know Coach Jaggers is involved with the younger kids then I see them having no problem competing in 5A.

...Mercer County's situation is much different ... a hasty (or so it seemed) consolidation that brought two schools together with little or no advance public knowledge and with no single facility equipped to handle it. Little wonder, then, that some question the motives of some of the people that were so quick to support it...

It certainly appears the administrators of the Mercer school system are trying to cherry pick a state championship...PERIOD.

This statement has nothing to do with the kids, it in no way belittles their efforts and casts no aspersions on their abilities. However, it does take the adults to task for what looks to be, at least from the outside, a thinly veiled attempt to achieve a modicum of athletic success at the expense of ethics, class and sportsmanship. If this is not the case, the general thinking goes, then why not wait until the schools are actually in the same building before merging the athletic teams. MANY county school systems across the state operate more than one high school with separate teams without too much trouble.

As has been stated previously, SOME Mercer fans sound as arrogant as the private school supporters and a few seem loathe to even admit there is a competitive advantage.

Too many times we, as a society, get wrapped up in sports to such an extent that we have forgotten the entire basis of them, the whole reason for the exsistence of sport...to have fun. All too often the emphasis is placed on winning at all costs as opposed to the instillment of a good work ethic, understanding the importance of teamwork, the concepts of good sportsmanship and fair play and, most importantly, having fun.

What district will Mercer be playing in next year? What other teams are in that district?

Don't know which district but the teams inculde Mercer, Southwestern, Lincoln, Pulaski Co., South Laurel and maybe one more school...

That should be some good football.

First, I think that is a riduculous statment...that they would push this to "Cherry Pick" a football championship.

Second, lets say they waited till next year. The new classifications are up and MC is in its new 3 or 4a class and then merge. Well they would be in the class until the next turn...and people would be on hear saying the same things.

Any time you add to a team it has to help.

Pick any 2 players out of the 20 or so thay added, and any coach would love to have them.

This is awesome, we have haters and everything.

Isn't it great! We love haters were i come from.

Replace a few words and this sounds like the kind of thing Boyle Co. heard when it moved from 2A to 3A. We all know what happened next...and again...and again.

My point is...no one should be quick to dismiss Coach Jagger's Titans after this season in trying to reason "they look so good only because they're playing smaller schools".

Being a top-tier team in ANY class is plenty of reason enough for that team to be respected when it moves up or down in classification.

I would think that if Mercer does not win a state championship this year there will be some very disapointed school officials that took a lot of time to put this together.

Its not false or misleading. If people are going to argue about enrollment you dont get to be selective about it. FACT NKY 4A teams have gotten pounded by schools with lower and sometimes HALF of their enrollment.

Fact, name them.

Fact, go back and check the record books of the top teams in 4A.Then inclued them all. It still doesn't add up.

Fact, the lesser teams in any district fair badly against most teams.

Fact, Scott's sole purpose in life is to make your statement seem reasonable on the surface.

Fact, teams like HHS, CCH, and Beechwood are not in the same boat as Ryle, BC, Conner, Dixie, SK, Holmes, and Campbell County. Those are your teams that have faired well. And of those only HHS has been a consistent winner. A 16 time state champ can skew numbers for anyone. Remove them from the equation and then give me some numbers. It seems to me that without them, your argument doesn't hold much water.

Classless. That sums your post up. And to anyone else who seems to think this was all planned for football. If that's the case then they would have done it a long time ago when the talent was even greater. Mercer would have had a state title contender this year just like they had last year with or without the merge. They returned alot from the 10-2 team from last season. Mercer County is a respected school system. They are working their butts off to make sure all these kids from k-12 get to and from school and recieve everything they need to get a proper education. And after all their efforts people want to assume that all of this is because of football. Below the belt. This will be a farewell tour for alot of AA schools. Either way it will be fun come playoff time. Bash on Mercer then.
