So you're saying Mercer is on Highlands level? Let's just go on and award the 2 and 3A titles to the Titans now. I'm sure Highlands won't mind. Ask someone who has seen the two teams. You know what, go on I don't care, win 2A with a 3A team. Tell yourself that everyone is just against Mercer and their kids, it isn't at all about the teams that are working their tails off that have to adhere to the true 2A rules. After all the kids that are getting to play down against all of the other kids that thought they were on a level field are more important. My team is a 1A team that won't come close to winning the title, but at least we'll be playing where we should. I'm sorry but if I was given an advantage against people that were working just as hard as I was I don't think I'd take any special pride in winning. Of course if you're getting upset because we're minimalizing Mercer's kid work I know you wouldn't want to do the same thing to the kids that went into the offseason and worked their butts off thinking they'd have the same chance as all the other teams their size--and then had to play a team from a larger class.

Two reasons ... timing and procedure.

Timing ... Letcher Central consolidated in the first year of a two-year classification/realignment cycle.

Procedure ... Letcher Central's consolidation was announced well in advance of its execution. The program's district opponents had plenty of warning and time to work them into their schedules. Opponents of the feeder schools (Whitesburg and Fleming-Neon) had time to replace them on their schedules.

Neither situation applied to Mercer's consolidation.

Thanks for the info. I was just wondering if the situations were the same or worlds apart. My question would be then, if both Mercer and Harrodsburg had football programs what happened to one of their schedules. If they hurried the procedure to where it didnt hamper their move in classes then how did it affect teams involved in Harrodsburgs upcoming schedule that was apparently scratched.

This wasn't planned to happen at the last minute like you think. You don't even know how this tore the community apart during the past year.

They consolidated due to the fact that Mercer is currently building a new high school that will be second to none in the state. And now was the perfect time to merge. This has been a topic (merge) for several years.
That's fine, but the new school won't be ready until next year at the earliest. Correct?

If that is the case, couldn't the merger just as easily had been announced a year in advance instead of taking place immediately?

Maybe it had been discussed in the community for several years ... that is also true in several other counties where there is a single county system and an independent system. Usually, though, things aren't done as hastily as they seemed to have been done in Mercer County.

I haven't said that this was done at the last minute ... I'm not qualified to do so because I'm not close to the situation.

At the same time, though, there is the perception that it was done rather hastily. The merger took place in very short time after the issue became public knowledge. Harrodsburg's scheduled opponents didn't find out about it until spring, best I recall ... with no advance warning and precious little time to fill in the suddenly open date on their schedules.

I'm not getting upset and I'm not saying that Mercer is on anybody's level. You were comparing scores earlier so I thought I would throw one out their showing how SL dismantled SW after getting dismantled by Mercer. Please don't think I'm upset. I think of this as good entertainment. Nobody is saying here that Mercer is going to win the title hands down. We do think we have a good chance to make it there. Somerset is in class A so they should worry about class A. I don't see Danville complaining about being outnumbered when they play bigger schools. Danville is a champion on a higher level then the majority of the teams in the state. They don't complain. They just win. They pretty much have swept the entire county of pulaski this season. I agree that Mercer has a huge advantage but they also have a team that has been together for a couple of months. You can consider that as a disadvantage. If they win the title it may have an * in many eyes but not mine. It will have Mercer County Titans 2006 class AA state champions.

It always boils down to money. In this case not football. The school recieved many millions more with the added enrollment to add to the school. Almost everything boils down to money these days.

Mercer County's school system, to the best of my knowledge, would have received the same funds for student enrollment even if it had taken in Harrodsburg High School and kept the schools separate for one more year.

Correct?

Aren't most of the students in the system (in grades 10-12) attending school at the same building that housed them a year ago?

Not under two different districts. With the elimination of the Harrodsburg district they get all the money to build the school in one phase instead of multiple ones.

I wasn't referring to separate districts. Mercer County could easily have absorbed the Harrodsburg system and simply chosen to keep the high schools separate for another year, yet started the procedure of building a single facility for a consolidated school.

Correct?

And again, aren't most of the students in the school system (in grades 10-12) attending school at the same building that housed them a year ago?

It still is Mercer County high no matter how you look at it. The kids were allowed to attend either Mercer High school location they wanted. But, classes are held at both schools for some students.

Does the merge include all sports like baseball, basketball, softball, volleyball etc... or just Football ? Hmmmmmmmmmm.

The kids still go to 2 different schools I believe. If that is the case why merge this year ? Hmmmmmmmmmmmm.:fire: :fire: :fire:

This sounds like my attitude about Trinity and St. Xavier.

I find it quite amusing that some of the rest of the state is now getting a taste of what we in 4A have been dealing with for some time now. I would also imagine these are some of the same who said, "numbers aren't everything", etc., etc. Here's a newsflash for all you guys that are so bummed out by the Mercer consolidation. You think you have it bad? Look at the enrollment differences in current 4A right now. The top two schools, we all know who they are, have more than double the enrollment of half of all of 4A! Welcome to the argument.......now you know how we in 4A feel!

The current Mercer high is crowded as it is. All sports are combined. They will have a great track team as well. Their long jumper chrys jones is a national champion. This year will be over with before you know it. Mercer isn't unbeatable. But they aren't the scotties either.

Because they wan't to put to use their Million-Dollar sports facility.:thumb: Also, better transition for the kids as well.
