Things that make you go hmmmmmmm

Feel better now?

At the same time, you also questioned my motive for being in this discussion.

And I still do.

What is so "very interesting" about Mercer and Western having higher enrollment numbers and being #1 and #2?

At least man up and say what you mean.

Keep the thread about the topic and not each other. Thanks.

Let's see Danville over Southwestern by 3. Danville over Boyle by 2. Mercer over Boyle by 13. Highlands over Southwestern 49-0 at the half. Highlands over Mercer in a 3A playoff game. If Mercer were playing in their class, by a whole bunch, say 35.

Mercer 53 (starters pulled early 3rd qtr)

South Laurel 6

South Laurel 49

Southwestern 27

Thanks....for validating my point.

And yet the point of this thread is valid. Mercer had an unfair advantage, no matter if it is legal or how it happened. They are a bigger school getting to play down PERIOD, END OF STORY. They should not be in 2A. Their enrollment numbers do not warrant it, they're playing there on a technicality. :sssh: :sssh: :sssh: :sssh:

Hey, I don't remember all the whining when Boyle won their first title in AA when they had AAA #'s. And if they did whine then Boyle didn't care.
I don't know what Boyle's enrollment was when it first won the 2A title. Even if it was in the 3A range, there is a distinct difference in that situation and this one.

As I pointed out this summer, this kind of thing happens every once in a while because of the natural ebb and flow of a school's enrollment.

Mercer County's situation is much different ... a hasty (or so it seemed) consolidation that brought two schools together with little or no advance public knowledge and with no single facility equipped to handle it. Little wonder, then, that some question the motives of some of the people that were so quick to support it.

In most cases, a soon-to-be-closed school has a year to "make the farewell tour," so to speak. Harrodsburg enjoyed no such thing.

No one is blaming the kids, but that doesn't make it right for the kids who are out their working just as hard that have to play at a disadvantage--or did you forget about them???

Go picket in front of the KHSAA's headquarters. Why bash Mercer? That's why this thread was started.

You can bet Russell or Belfry will bring it if the time comes im already sick of this Mercer talk and im sure the rest of the Devils are. Your doing nothing but making the fire larger.

You opened a Mercer titled thread. Don't cry about being sick of it.

Need you ask ... I think the point is clear.

At least man up and say what you mean.
I have ... for quite a while.

Check around, ntrl ... I have a reputation for not holding back my feelings on any issue related to high school sports, and even some that aren't.

They consolidated due to the fact that Mercer is currently building a new high school that will be second to none in the state. And now was the perfect time to merge. This has been a topic (merge) for several years.

You opened a Mercer titled thread einstein. Don't cry about being sick of it.

I didnt open no mercer thread you might wanna go back and check again.

You're right......

I'm tired... good luck to Russell. Props to the 2A champs.

Everyone else...."discuss" this till dawn. I'm out.

I think the thread is "Things that make you go hmmmmmmmmmm". It stated nothing about Mercer.

Can someone explain just how Mercer is getting to play in AA. Honest question just wanting an answer. I remember a few years back when Letcher County Central was opened they went straight into AAA. I believe they were consolidated from a AA and a A school. Just wondering why they werent allowed to play in AA that year and Mercer is now. Not trying to stir anything up just looking for an answer.
The reason ... timing. Letcher Central consolidated in the first year of a two-year classification/realignment cycle.

Because Letcher Central's consolidation was announced well in advance of its execution, the new program's district opponents had plenty of warning and time to work them into their schedules. Opponents of the feeder schools (Whitesburg and Fleming-Neon) had time to replace them on their schedules.

Neither situation applied to Mercer's consolidation.

It's kinda like the kid in school that nobody respected or made fun of. But while school was out that kid really grew. That kid really grew. It happens sometimes. It's just one year people. Instead of slamming their numbers why don't someone explain how they could have been moved up to 3A this year. They merged in june. You know how hard it would be to just find one game before the season started? I'm not just talking about Mercer. Just think about the team's on the Mercer schedule. That's alot of money these schools would lose. Plus losing a game off their schedule. Someone help me out and explain how anybpdy could pull this off. That's why the KHSAA doesn't do things like that.
