January 11, 20179 yr Two interesting stats I heard today...at least I think they are interesting: The last time Clemson beat Bama was the same year Einstein discovered the Theory of Relativity (E=MC squared). 1905! Even the Cubs had won a WS after that. Clemson beat the last SEVEN national champs this year (Bama, OSU, FSU and Auburn)...THAT is strong!
January 11, 20179 yr I'm not trying to say that the pass interefernce calls in this game were bad. However, the PI rules need to change. There are simply too many of these penalties in both college and the NFL. It is part of teams' offensive strategy to seek out these calls-----and the refs are glad to oblige. Maybe the rules could change such that there is no foul unless the contact actually prevented the receiver from catching the pass. This would require discretion on the refs' part but they already have to use discretion in making calls, e.g. holding calls. The way PI is called now allows offenses to gain yards too cheaply.

January 11, 20179 yr Dan Patrick made an interesting comment today. He said on that last play Alabama should have just grabbed the Clemson receivers and made sure they couldn't catch a pass. That would have run time off the clock and forced Clemson to choose to either kick the field goal for the tie or go for broke and try to score a TD.
January 11, 20179 yr Then am I correct that they should not have spotted the ball at the 2 yd line, instead should have been half the distance at around the 5 or so. The flag that was thrown by the ref landed on the one yard line. The ref was in the end zone when he threw the flag. The ref did not move the flag, or adjust it, once it landed. So, I say you are correct. Something should be done about the rub routes. The last TD, one receiver was blocking the DB at the knees before the ball was even thrown. They had another TD earlier in the game, but looked a little more legal. Clemson got away with one, or maybe two in this game. They would have scored from the 5 yard line anyway with the illegal pick. JMO.

Lets see, going in the bowl season / playoff Bama was 12-0 / #1 and OSU at 11-1 / #4. I for one do not consider those records "fraud", if you do then o.k., that's you but don't state it as fact. ...just say'n. I had said in an earlier thread that had Penn St. been chosen for the playoff over OSU then I wouldn't have had a complaint due to the head to head match up, PSU beat the Buckeyes. OSU did have an better overall wins than PSU so I guess that was considered more in that case, I don't know. My point making was that to consider Alabama or OSU a fraud is really hilarious. At least to me and probably a lot of college football fans regardless . Making a statement like that has no backing / facts to back it up other than it's your opinion and you know what opinions are like .... everybody has one. :thumb:
