I was doing a little bit of research about the overall state finals results. I'm going to reserve my opinion (and what little weight it carries) but here are the pure numbers for the 10 years of 6 classes, and 9 years previous of 4 classes.

Again, I'm not making a statement about either system or the current games or anything like that. But, these are some numbers that I thought were interesting. I just think stuff like that is interesting. And I've got some more stuff if anyone is interested.

So, using your numbers for all classes combined...

 

Average margin of victory for 10 yrs under the 6 class system is 22.85

Average margin of victory for 9 years under the 4 class system was 20.65

 

Not a significant difference

Or, how about this.

 

All teams stay in their respective class, and if they want to win a championship, THEN GET BETTER. That is all.

Christian County - ranked 17th in the State by Maxpreps and as high as #2 in 5A by BGPs throughout the year

Owensboro - ranked 23rd in the State by Maxpreps and as high as #2 inn 5A by BGPs throughout the year

Fern Creek - ranked 16th in the State by Maxpreps and as high as #2 or 3 in 5A by BGPs throughout the year.

 

Pulaski County - currently ranked 26th in the State by Maxpreps and in the lower half of the BGP 5A Top 10 most of the year played these teams from the 2nd through 4th rounds:

 

Whitley County - ranked 59th in the state and don't think they ever appeared on the BGP 5A poll all year.

Southwestern - ranked 35th in the state and in the lower half of the top 10 5A BGP poll basically all year.

South Oldham - ranked 38th in the state and around 5 to 8 in the normal BGP 5A poll all year.

 

I'm not saying they couldn't have won one of those games, but I am saying they don't run the table on Christian County, Owensboro and Fern Creek.

It's not as much as I would have expected, especially with the increase in the "modern" offense thinking.

 

 

To me, it looked like the additional classes didn't really impact the smaller classes, but the larger classes seem to be less competitive. But, that could also just be because the last few years have had some monster teams.

Second, WKU is an absolute joke when it comes to pricing and fan friendlyness. That's why they have attendance issues at their home games. Concessions is highway robbery. I never buy anything just out of principal, I don't care how thirsty I am. Then their ushers which are third party people brought up from Nashville were harassing people about their seats. Cops even had to be called. They tried to tell just a few people the red chair backs were reserved for VIP and you had to have a specific ticket for them. That's never been the case that I know of, everyone just sits first come first serve. I don't even know where you can buy VIP tickets, but even if they do exist it was never enforced.

 

I ran into a similar problem a few years back with the club level red seats. I like you always thought seating was first come first serve since the majority of ppl at Club level watch from inside.

 

As for the Blowouts I would have enjoyed seeing the JC/Belfry game. And I would have enjoyed BG/T game. I also would have liked for CAL to try play a Belfry or JC. Personally I would like to see the classes cut at least 1 class.

Here are a couple of suggestions from other states on how they do their championship games: Alabama rotates their championship games between Auburn and Alabama. Maybe do a rotation where the championship games are rotated between UK, UL and WKU. Maybe put a strongly worded suggestion from the KHSAA to WKU that if they want to be in the championship rotation, make a suggestion to CUSA to either have their championship game at a neutral site or rotate between divisions in the conference. There is no excuse to play a championship on a Sunday when people need to be in church or with family. Virginia also does their championship games on a Saturday. How it works is that championship games are played at multiple sites. For example: 1A and 2A- Lindsey Wilson or Campbellsville. 3A and 4A- EKU or Murray State. 5A and 6A- UK, UL, WKU. These could be played on a Saturday without having to miss school and make it easier for people to travel.

Suspect there really aren't that many, especially considering the cost of three days, two hotel stays and every other cost. Wonder if corporate sponsors would stay on board with the benefits of multiple community exposures. I like gchs_uk9's idea a lot. Personally suspect 3 venue attendance would pick up dramatically over one sight, flex scheduling now existing.

There are more than you think. I for one hope they never split the games up to multiple sites. I really enjoy that weekend.

Coach, you're going to get the same $10 fans no matter where you have it. Mayfield will take 1000 to Western or to Pikeville. But if you're playing in three sites, all of the people in the suites at Western won't be paying $90 for six games. They'll pay $10 like everyone else. So would you rather have $90 or $20 from me?

In the end, it's damn near impossible to come up with a solution that someone won't complain about. It doesn't matter where they are held, there will likely be at least 1, but probably more, that have to travel significantly more than the rest. And there's no way to know who will be there when. Even if you rotate, that wl happen. I do feel that the locker room issue discussed should be addressed. Of all the things in this thread, that is the only thing that truly impacts the players experience. The rest is all fan stuff.

It's actually a good chunk of the fans there. The entire club level at WKU (well, 90+%) are all coaching staffs from across the state. I'm not sure what percentage of that ends up being the entire crowd, but it's a pretty significant portion.

With the current playoff system, the state championship games at all levels are a joke, how does it get fixed, how does the KHSAA put more butts in the seats in Bowling Green, and how does the KHSAA make these games watchable? I want my $9.95 back

1. Seed the playoffs, so you don't have teams like Male and Trinity playing in the 3rd round.

2. Move it from WKU to Centre college or UK so fans from NKY, Ashland, Pikeville don't have to travel as far.
