IN NO WAY would I be considered Bernie Sanders. Bernie would be more for the everyone wins program that we have now. Playoffs that are TOO deep, Champions crowned for beating inferior competition, and more control by the powers that be. What I am suggesting is that schools that have the ability to play up do so to test themselves (a team gets no better playing teams that they can dominate without being challenged). Sure, schools that are not successful in the class they are in will be moved down, but only proportional to those moving up. The ones crying about this suggestion the most are the ones that are glad their particular school is dominating the class they are in.

I don't mind letting teams play up if they choose, but instead of trying to handciap teams for beating same sized programs, how about the other programs simply raise their bar themselves?

5 of your state champs. All 5 had a period in the past 10 years where they were not the dominant team in their path. All have made adjustments to their program to improve and become the Champs instead of the runner-up or the team that loses in the Regional Finals to their rival.

When the BG program gets to where the Highlands program is and they are winning state titles 70-22 every year then we can address it. Last year they won 21-7. The year before they weren't even in the finals. Year before that BG won 49-14. The year before that BG won 34-20. Two of those four games were competitive and all four games had competitive first halves. 10 years from now if BG is still beating people like this in 5A then move them up. For now I am going to enjoy this current wave of talent and coaching. It doesn't last forever.

I can predict the finalists every year in the 7a class. Trinity vs St X. Of course they would be the only 2 teams in that class.

Yes! The 7A game could be played at the John and all the fans could come and tailgate. Probably draw 30-40K and be, possibly, a competitive game.

 

Now go look at the 6A bracket without those two. It gets competitive and interesting. The schools students get involved. There is a truly attainable goal out there with all those schools on a more level competitive field.

True! Only Coach Dan Haley (preceded Coach Wallace) and Coach Kevin Wallace have EVER won a playoff game for BG.

Corbin beat Central head to head very early on and I feel was the better team by maybe a TD or 10 points.

 

The Belfry Central score is misleading. It was 38-7 in the middle of the 4th. Got a little wonky at the end. Meanwhile Corbin led Belfry 17-7 late in the 3rd before Belfry exploded.

 

With that said, Central was at worst the 3rd best team and definitely earned their spot by winning a tough playoff path.

Class 2A, 4A, and 6A would be brutal. Those would catch the teams playing up.

 

Classes 1A, 3A, and 5A would become the teams who won a Championship only because the best teams moved up.

4A Johnson Central moves UP to 5A

3A Belfry and Central move UP to 4A

4A Hopkins County Central, E Carter, Clay Co move DOWN to 3A

3A Jackson, Knott Central, McCreary Co move DOWN to 2A

2A Clinton, Todd Co Central, Trimble, Waggener move DOWN to 1A

When they win a title they have to move up? When they win 4 titles?

 

What happens when that schools enrollment drops and they technically should drop in class?

 

For example... Belfry has a current enrollment in the 600's and is looking more and more like they will drop to 2A enrollment in the next realignment (By example CAL had a significantly higher enrollment than Belfry). If Belfry was moved to 4A should they move back to 3A when their enrollment drops or should they be asked to play two classes up?

 

Why would Johnson Central move up to 5A after winning their first State Title? Wouldn't this mean all 4A teams with a State Title in that current classification would move up such as South Warren?

 

How about Highlands who had previously dominated 4A while playing up and are now 5A... should they be asked to move to 6A based off their past success? Once Bowling Green move sup if Highlands wins the title do they go to 6A and effectively play nearly 3 classes above their enrollment?

 

You have Hazard moving up when they were a State Runner-Up? Do we have to move all Runner-Ups then? Why did CAL not move up but DeSales did? Why didn't NewCath when they have lived in the State Finals for a decade?

The reason for the 6A (formerly 4A) attendance drop is more than the finals in BG. For one, the 6A support is a mile wide and an inch deep. "Supporters" show up by the thousands for the annual X versus T game. But it's a party. Most do not care a thing about football, it's about the event. It's being seen.

 

Johnson Central made the trip. Belfry made the trip. Mayfield always makes the trip. Of course Franklin-Simpson and BG were there.

 

6A is not competitive. Trinity just out works everyone else in the class.

 

Make one more class. 7A. Private schools with a male enrollment over 800. 6A becomes interesting again.

 

Speaking as one of those who only show up to the regular season St. X Trinity game, it's not a matter of having support 'an inch deep'. Especially considering how many of those people, like myself, live out of state. I know when the St. X-Trinity game is long beforehand, letting me schedule off work and arrange to be town with plenty of advance warning. I can't do that with only a week's notice especially not when the game is even further away.

 

Chuckle, 6A wouldn't be much more competitive by introducing 7A. Male would dominate with those two gone.

Christian County - ranked 17th in the State by Maxpreps and as high as #2 in 5A by BGPs throughout the year

Owensboro - ranked 23rd in the State by Maxpreps and as high as #2 inn 5A by BGPs throughout the year

Fern Creek - ranked 16th in the State by Maxpreps and as high as #2 or 3 in 5A by BGPs throughout the year.

 

Pulaski County - currently ranked 26th in the State by Maxpreps and in the lower half of the BGP 5A Top 10 most of the year played these teams from the 2nd through 4th rounds:

 

Whitley County - ranked 59th in the state and don't think they ever appeared on the BGP 5A poll all year.

Southwestern - ranked 35th in the state and in the lower half of the top 10 5A BGP poll basically all year.

South Oldham - ranked 38th in the state and around 5 to 8 in the normal BGP 5A poll all year.

 

I'm not saying they couldn't have won one of those games, but I am saying they don't run the table on Christian County, Owensboro and Fern Creek.
