No offense, but I don't think Highlands would have made it to BG this year even if they were in 4A since Johnson Central was in the Eastern bracket. Though, I am curious about how far they would've gone. Where would Highlands have been in the bracket if they were still in 4A?

Based on geography, I'd assume they would have been in the district with Scott, Holmes, Bourbon County, Harrison County, and Mason County. They'd likely have been district champions and would have hosted Rowan County in the first round, Ashland in the second, and then traveled to Johnson Central for the regional final.

It might help if the state championship was more centrally located.

Beechwood was 3 1/2 hours away.

Just throwing this out there: Ohio has their football state championship at Ohio State... Talk about an empty stadium and high concessions.

I don't think some of you realize the "reward" to the High School kids to play in a big venue (full, empty or whatever). It's a reward for making it to the Championship Game. Maybe for those that are constantly there it has lost its appeal but for those whose program is new to the scene or a long time coming - it's a thrill to get to that game.

 

The reward shouldn't be playing at someone else's field for a title. I saw that playout in VA in the early 90's and a long time team in the Coal Country hosted the State Final in a cow pasture on a watered down field to take advantage of their size and try to neutralize the speed difference. It worked too. (I would also add the coach ordered new cleats with illegal length to get better footing and wore them throughout the playoffs on the horrible field. An earlier opponent's coach found the receipt and when confronted with the illegality of it all that town's school system renewed their contract with the offending coach)

 

WKU may not be the most convenient or best place but if no one else bids you can't just show up at another field say WE ARE PLAYING HERE!.

 

I hope it does go to Lexington or back to Louisville but, it is what it is for right now.

In the early 2000's you had:

 

- 2 Louisville schools playing in Louisville

- Extremely high level of talent on each team to draw more fans

- 2 Louisville schools playing in Louisville

As I recall it was Louisville that did not want to host any longer because of their affiliation with their Big East Conference. Now that they are in the ACC I hope they will reconsider but until the current contract plays out, nothing can really be done.
