Will Bowling Green face any challenge during the 5A playoffs? For the purpose of the thread, I'll define challenge as keeping the final score margin in the single digits, or winning.

 

If so, then from who?

Cov Cath maybe if they are clicking on all cylinders? Even if Cov Cath plays a PERFECT game I think Bowling Green would still win by 7-10

The Graves County game from a couple years ago still gives me some pause, Bowling Green should have won that game by 3 TD's.

 

With all things being equal, the only teams I can see having a shot at one of those "Right time, right place" type of games are CovCath, Owensboro, or Christian County

 

Owensboro and Christian County have the athletes that could make enough plays if Bowling Green isn't focused

 

CovCath has the best overall team outside of BG.

 

If I had to choose I would err on the side of Bowling Green winning every game by 20+ points over winning one game by less than 10 though

CovCath is probably the best shot. They've played a better team that Bowling Green already this year, so the awe and shock won't quite be for them what it is for other teams.

As @ATLCat mentioned, you always reserve judgement for that Graves County game that I still to this day scratch my head over how they lost. Not taking anything away from an exceptional Graves County team, but I would agree with ATL that BG should have won that game by 3 TDs.

 

That said, CovCath, Owensboro and Christian County all have a chance. I mean everytime you step on the field you have a chance and if you don't go into every game thinking that way you've already lost. I know all 3 of those teams are very well coached and will be ready thinking they can win just like BG will.

 

IMO, Owensboro, this year, is most behind the 8-ball because they are pretty 1-dimentional. BG showed they can handle the veer ok with the Greenwood game (50-0), but Owensboro's line and RB are better than Greenwood's.

Christian County's skill guys are as good as you'd want in 5-A and in another season might even be the favorite to get to WKU if the brackets fell their way. I just think BG's lines will eventually wear on the Colonels for a clear win Friday.

 

CovCath is more unknown to me from a personel standpoint, but all you have to do is look at their schedule to know they have a very good team and would be playing at home so that is an advantage. I believe these Colonels also have a healthy pass game which is critical to playing BG IMO to keep the BG D off balance. I still like BG in this game, but probably not by as much as other Purple fans as I think CovCath would be fired up to play and ride that emotion to a very solid showing against BG and they would go in expecting to win.

 

I just don't think this is the year for anybody from the east (Pulaski County or Southwestern or South Oldham) to challenge BG or for that matter I'd take any of the 3 above in a game against any from the east mentioned.

The Graves game should remind all teams that if you're not focused or have an off night, you can be beat.

For what it is worth, and I understand football is more than just numbers, calpreps has BG beating Cov Cath 38-21 on a neutral field. I also checked what calpreps had for BG against 2 opponents Cov Cath has faced, De Sales (OH) and Sycamore (OH), for the fun of it. BG 35 Sycamore 27, and BG 28 De Sales 31. I am not saying that Cov Cath will win this game, but it could be an exciting home game for the Colonels.

I guess I should have clarified. The players for CovCath currently are not use to state championships environments like Bowling Green lol.
