Highlands???

Featured Replies

I have a serious question about Highlands. What are some of the things that are different than they were a few years ago? Are they losing a good amount of Ft. Thomas League players to other programs? Did they change up the defense?

I am staying out of this one.

Keep it tight or the whole Kindergarten Class will be up in arms.

The answer is obvious and yet, no one wants to say it.

"The talent dried up." Child, please. Dale leaves and all of a sudden THIS happens? Come on, it's not that complicated.

They run a completely different offense now compared to when Dale was there. Dale's teams always had man blocking schemes upfront, from the day he left it was switched to a zone blocking scheme. When you would talk X and O's with Dale he loved the man scheme and took great pride in the fact that almost no other team in the state or country for that matter still used that blocking scheme.

Defensively, even in the years they were winning, you would watch film and wonder what they were doing because some things were odd but they would make up for it with pure speed. They would gamble and roll the dice a lot on defense knowing that they were going to score on offense. Now they have trouble stopping teams but the offense still runs hurry up when they can't move the ball effectively.

Wonder if Dale saw the writing on the wall that the talent was drying up and got out while the getting was good?

Don't fall all over yourself trying to criticize and not use facts. Probably 50% of the teams in KY do not use zone blocking.

What was he criticizing?

Also, I will disagree that "probably 50% of the teams in KY do not use zone blocking" and unless you can bring some "facts" I don't think there is anything you can say to prove me wrong.

Doubt it.

I'm sure you don't want to hear anything contrary to what you want to believe. First of all every wing-t team in the state is man blocking. Straight I formation are man blocking. Option teams are man blocking. I could go on. Oh by the way, nothing wrong with zone. The 2 best teams in the state are zone teams.

P.S. are we supposed to pretend that he wasn't criticizing Wienrich?

Highlands football has been winning for 100 yrs and overnite all the talent has dried up and Dale saw it coming???...yeah yeah that's it.

Aren't the JV and Freshman teams still racking up big wins? If so, could it be that HHS is just experiencing what most of us out in the state who 'get what we get' year in and year out with two classes back to back that just don't have 3-5 stud playmakers?

...and that this bump in the road is a temporary thing?

There likely are/were 3 to 5 stud playmakers last year and this year. Problem is that you play them only on one side of the ball when the overall talent pool is not as deep. If the sophomore class is so strong as claimed by others on here, then why are they not playing? That either falls on them not being ready for varsity action or the guys in the office. So which is it?

Seems like HHS is scoring quite a bit of points, even against the better teams on the schedule, but they are just getting outscored. Is it safe to say that their problems are primarily on the defensive side of the ball? And if so, since Coach Weinrich has been the DC for years, what has changed there?

Is it time to put some of the better athletes on D, even if it robs the O a little?
