Highlands???

Can you prove that 50% or more teams do zone block? What or how are you defining zone blocking?

Now unless I have been lied to by former OL and others HHS old line scheme was the most free flowing blocking system. They did all kinds of stuff you see in other offenses. The OL had a lot of freedom and just sorted it out. It was simple and elegant but it's not magic.

Can someone explain what they are referring to as a double slip on a 3 tech? There is no universal terminology in football.

I find it interesting for years Highland fans have told everyone to work harder. Over and over that was the response to fans of other schools. Now some are saying talent is down and/or coaching is the reason things are the way they are. This was never an acceptable response by other schools. They were just told they weren't working hard enough.

I honestly have no dog in this fight and I hope the best for all programs.

Double slip= double team a down lineman, then slip off to the linebacker.

If you double team someone then come off to another, to me, that is zone blocking because you are blocking an area(zone). Gap schemes utilize the same concept on their block down kick out blocking assignments.

HHS never double teamed

Now this explains the disconnect. This explains why you believe so many people run zone. To myself just because I double team and check for run throughes (gap schemes) it does not qualify as running zone. Just because two double and one comes off doesn't qualify as running zone to me. I think it qualifies as using a zone technique. There is a big difference between using zone techniques and running zone as an offensive scheme.

Maybe when you played at HHS on the OL you never helped out another OL. The C and G who played together talked about bump leading and chipping up to LBs which to me are zone techniques. Doesn't mean they were running zone but they used techniques in their scheme. The backside tackle in HHS often used a shift technique because he couldn't be sure presnap who would be the biggest threat. So he would gap step looking 2-3 to see which is the biggest threat. That isn't straight from Dale as he explained it to us with game film.

Like you said before, with the one of the favorite things for posters to say on Coach Huey, there is no universal terminology. To me, utilizing zone techniques as your rules for your blocking schemes, is running zone. Just because a team doesn't run IZ/OZ doesnt mean they are not zone blocking.

But, I think we might just be splitting hairs.

If nothing else, I'm learning how little I know about the intricacies of football.

I almost compared the offense to The Facemelter. You're right about Huey. Things make a lot more sense as far as POV now. Like I said earlier the blocking schemes used before with Dale were so simple and that was the elegance of the system. The counter trap play was Also huge in protecting that blocking scheme.

No one is EVER "ready" for his/her first Head Coaching job.

Only at Highlands would they run a coach out of town in 2.5 years with a 21-8 record, a state title and state semi-finalist appearance.

BW is a great person, great Coach, a great teacher and a great role model. And not one word from an HHS fan or an HHS hater on BGP will have ANYTHING to do with his coaching future. HHS will not get rid of their coach based on one suspect year. That's not what they do. The ONLY way he is not coach in the near future is if HE decides to give it up. We can all talk about it as long as we want. It won't happen. No matter how loud the natives scream. (Unless he doesnt feel like dealing with the natives). But I don't think he is one to run away from a challenge. It is tough to coach at HHS. But my guess is he knew exactly what he was getting into.

And for all the haters that like to comment on the HHS threads...I'll say this again. It's funny that you have a 1-6 team that has multiple running clocks put on them and they still garner twice as much attention as the teams that are supposed to be the best. And almost all of these polls, inquiries and hate threads are not started by HHS fans. So to me, when people are talking about your team, they are still relevant and they are still in the hunt in the future. People know it. If that wasn't true, they wouldn't be getting all this attention. What other 1-6 team that has falllen out of every poll has twice as much conversation about them than the best teams in the area??

Is that where the hate continues to come from?? Lol!

Shouldn't that be 22-14 including this year's results?

Amazing Highlands coaching stat. There have been 10 head coaches since 1942 and only one did not win a title as head coach. Nine head coaches since 1942 with at least one state title - and Weinrich is one of those 9.

Don't give yourself too much credit, people like to talk about extremes..the highs and the lows. If u were 3-3, it would be less interesting. And how is it hateful to discuss and comment on a 1-6 team? One of the most storied programs in the Commonwealth is 1-6 and you thought no one would notice? "we knew it was coming" "2 year downturn" "the calvary is coming" sounds a lot like the ROTC student in Animal House..."remain calm, all is well"

Nice try! When they were 500 last year, they were still the most talked about. So I'm not buying what you're selling. If it were one thread...I might buy that. But not week after week of getting 2-3 times the attention of all the other teams. We are talking 8 weeks now (not including last year and the entire off season). Every week with the most views and most comments and most attention from folks outside the fan base! There have been "extremes" in the past with others and they got no more than a "what's going on with so and so" thread. Like I said...still relevant...or people would have moved on long ago. You would think there would be nothing left to talk about, but they garner the most interest week after week.

And you're right and proving my point. "One of the most storied programs" you say. That's my point. Winning or losing...still talking about HHS. EVERY WEEK! People return to see the HHS threads, make new polls and ask some good questions. All by people outside the fan base. I could see one or two weeks of conversation...maybe. Not two months, unless people still had interest. And tell me again why there's still interest in a 1-6 team? Because it's HHS and people tune in! Which I was exactly my point.

We'll have to just wait and see how the rest all plays out over the next couple years I guess.

A lot of SK and Ryle and Cooper success has to do with population growth and increased enrollment. Has Highlands enrollement stayed steady or has Fort Thomas population declined or aged as people are having fewer kids? Is commercial development displacing homes? A lot of NKY cities are shoe horning new houses in anywhere they can. Is that the case in the fort?

Are we gonna continue to have these kinds of threads every week? Almost seem like after each loss there is another thread asking whats wrong with Highlands. Are folks really that giddy that Highlands is having a bad year and taking shots since they haven't been able to for roughly 30 years? My goodness
