Highlands???

Featured Replies

A lot of SK and Ryle and Cooper success has to do with population growth and increased enrollment. Has Highlands enrollement stayed steady or has Fort Thomas population declined or aged as people are having fewer kids? Is commercial development displacing homes? A lot of NKY cities are shoe horning new houses in anywhere they can. Is that the case in the fort?

No not at all they are up to around 1000 kids in there High School.

Yet you keep adding to the total.

Nice try! When they were 500 last year, they were still the most talked about. So I'm not buying what you're selling. If it were one thread...I might buy that. But not week after week of getting 2-3 times the attention of all the other teams. We are talking 8 weeks now (not including last year and the entire off season). Every week with the most views and most comments and most attention from folks outside the fan base! There have been "extremes" in the past with others and they got no more than a "what's going on with so and so" thread. Like I said...still relevant...or people would have moved on long ago. You would think there would be nothing left to talk about, but they garner the most interest week after week.

And you're right and proving my point. "One of the most storied programs" you say. That's my point. Winning or losing...still talking about HHS. EVERY WEEK! People return to see the HHS threads, make new polls and ask some good questions. All by people outside the fan base. I could see one or two weeks of conversation...maybe. Not two months, unless people still had interest. And tell me again why there's still interest in a 1-6 team? Because it's HHS and people tune in! Which I was exactly my point.

We'll have to just wait and see how the rest all plays out over the next couple years I guess.

Of all the teams in NKY, which team would you say has the biggest fan presence on this site?

Definitely HHS fans. But they aren't starting these threads. Outsiders are. And the HHS fans aren't all the views and comments. They respond to others asking good questions and the haters that want to trash the program. So the interest level outside the program is what drives the views and posts. If there wasn't all that outside interest, these polls and one-off threads wouldn't exist. All the conversation wouldn't exist.

OR only the game threads would exist and it would be a bunch of HHS supporters talking to each other. That's not the case.

My point...whether it's good times or bad times...people still care what's going on at HHS. And it seems to be more interest than what's going on at other programs that are having great years.

I paid my money; I get to say whatever I want as long as it's within the rules.

The point is you're beating your chest because people still talk about Highlands when they are 1-6. Um, duh. Highlands fans for years have made sure to let everyone know how great they are and how such and such school doesn't match up. You really think when they suck nobody is going to talk about it? :lol2: Come on man. We know you all aren't used to it, but EVERY team goes through a down cycle. Take your lumps like big boys and girls and soon enough Highlands will be back to where they are used to being.

If it makes you feel better about the awful record to keep posting how everyone is still talking about Highlands, good for you. People are going to celebrate the fact that Highlands isn't as good this year, you should expect that. Take it as a sign of respect for the program.

Aw, hell it's a conspiracy by BGP for click bait. That's the theory or so it seems.

Well, that's a different conversation completely.

How about learn something to use when you are back on top?

No, not beating my chest. If you know me and you really want to know what I'm doing, it's sarcasm to reel in the haters. The haters all want to get their jabs in and pretend to be experts on everything HHS, but essentially they are continuing to contribute to the interest in HHS. Again, good or bad. If people are talking about you, there is interest and that's not bad.

People are happy HHS is struggling. I get it! But by continuing to talk about them, they are still promoting how impactful the program is in NKY. They would love to see HHS "go away", but yet keep talking about them. Isn't that ironic?

If outsiders wouldn't keep creating threads, there wouldn't be much chatter outside of the game threads. Is that an incorrect statement?

I'm not sure anybody is trying to make the point that they want Highlands to go away. They are just kicking the dog when it's down. Highlands has been, still is (even in a down year) and will probably continue to be the top dog in NKY. It takes years for that to change, IMO.

Your posts come off as trying to boost your own ego. JMO. You use the angle "they are still talking about us, we must still be the main attraction!" when really I think you just don't like people taking the warranted shots and HHS this year.

You clearly want to be the talk of the town in NKY. That includes taking your lumps when the team is down. You can't want all the attention when you're good for years on end, and then expect it to go away when you're not. That's not how it works.

I have no problem taking the lumps when they are down. Most of us HHS get it! Get the shots in, it's been awhile. And I give a ton of credit to people that ask legit questions. And I try to answer them to the best of my knowledge. But it doesn't mean I can't take shots back at the haters. Just because they are allowed to "get even" doesn't mean I can't play with them a little.

But I also said all attention is good attention. I believe that. And what I'm saying is as the haters continue to take their jabs, they are actually contributing to the attention. Isn't that ironic???

And you didn't answer my question. Isn't it the outsiders that keep the chatter going? Which is giving the attention to HHS? And promoting the program?

And to your "talk of the town" comment. I don't care about that. But isn't it obvious that HHS will be the "talk of the town". Isn't that exactly what I'm talking about when I say the outsiders are the ones keeping the chatter going? Good or bad, they are the talk of the town. I don't make them that. The people talking about them do. And that's others outside the fan base. Why would any HHS fan want them to be the talk of the town in a year this challenging?

Did the Ft. Thomas district change their policy on enrolling non-residents a couple of years ago? This would be the simplest explanation.

I am not accusing HHS of any previous wrong doing as every school district in the Commonwealth has different rules regarding non-residents. Even Eminence has students from 7 counties. A kid from Oldham County may pay tuition to attend Ballard, as long as Ballard is not full. It's all good. (I personally believe a child should be eligible to attend any school and provide their own transportation). Highlands has maintained their enrollment very consistently for the past thirty years, at least.

This is a serious question from someone who drove up to witness Male take on Highlands many years ago. I also saw Coach Beatty lose his first game at Trinity to Highlands in Mount Sterling, KY. I watched every scrimmage HHS and THS played and enjoyed watching this year's Trinity freshmen squad play in Ft. Thomas. The only positive I see from this poor start for HHS is the opportunity for Trinity to get #24 and take a lead in overall number of championships since 1959.

I think HHS should count the titles earned with Dr. Litkenhous' formula prior to 1959. I always give St. Xavier credit for their titles earned in 1956 and 1957.

Wow I'm new to this group and afraid to say my son plays for Highlands on the D side. Don't shoot me please. But I would like to say one thing about all these young men. They do go to practice everyday and they are for the most part giving it the best they got. This is a great group of guy's. We as a community have to stand behind our boy's good or bad. These boy's are just as frustrated as us parent's but they aren't giving up and we must not either.
