Highlands???

Featured Replies

Wow I'm new to this group and afraid to say my son plays for Highlands on the D side. Don't shoot me please. But I would like to say one thing about all these young men. They do go to practice everyday and they are for the most part giving it the best they got. This is a great group of guy's. We as a community have to stand behind our boy's good or bad. These boy's are just as frustrated as us parent's but they aren't giving up and we must not either.

That's a great post. I know they work their tails off. I see it. I'm sure they are frustrated as well. You don't grow up in Ft Thomas without pressure to succeed and this in itself has to be tough for them.

No need to be afraid to say that your son is a Bluebird defender. Everyone knows that these kids are working their butts off and trying to make every play possible. There is no shame in losing football games. It happens. Many HHS posters are just not used to it and have a hard time accepting it. HHS fans have been spoiled by success and many expect it should continue uninterrupted. The reality is, nothing lasts forever. There have been down periods in the past and when this one ends, there will be more in the future. No program stays on top forever and this football program is not about one or two years, it is about the history, the present and the future of Bluebird Football. Your son and all the other players on this team are part of one of the most respected football programs in the State and in the Nation. They and you should be very proud of that. Go Birds! Beat Cov Cath!

Well thank you very much for such kind words. I know my son hates to lose but like we have told him you fo your best and that's all that matters. He isn't your best performer out there but he's not too shabby either. And I just hate to hear all that negativity on any of these boys. I'm hoping this week will be different and we will win and maybe then it will put a spark in these kid's that we need.

Go Colonels!

It's easy to say you are questioning a System or program and not the kids but with every post remember they are reading too. NKY is not the same as it was with population growth and it's never going to be easy for one school to stay on top.

One point that needs to be made if it hasn't already been stated in this thread is the Highland's schedule is the #1 toughest schedule played to date in all of KY. The Bluebirds record would be very different if they played a less difficult schedule. Let me provide some examples. Below are what Highland's record would be if they played the schedules of other top teams:

Vs. schedule of some top N. Ky. Teams:

Vs. Ryle schedule ...... Highlands would be 3-3

Vs. Conner schedule ..... 4-3

Vs. Beechwood schedule ... 6-1

Vs. other top 5A school's schedules:

Vs. Bowling Green schedule ... 3-4

Vs. Greenwood schedule ... 5-2

Vs. Pulaski Co. schedule ... 4-3

Vs. Christian Co. schedule ... 4-4

Vs. Fern Creek schedule ... 6-2

Vs. South Oldham schedule ... 7-0

Vs. schedule of other top school's in KY:

Vs. Johnson Central schedule ... 4-3

Vs. Lafayette schedule ....... 4-4

Vs. Mayfield schedule ....5-2

Vs. Franklin Simpson schedule ... 5-2

Vs. McCracken Co. schedule .... 6-2

Think about it. If Highlands were 4-3 against an easier schedule, or 7-0 like they would be against South Oldham's schedule ... would this thread even exist? I bet if Highlands played South Oldham's schedule and was 7-0, they would be ranked #2 in 5A and people would be wondering if they could beat Bowling Green.

If it was so clear to Bluebird fans that these two years were going to be less talented teams, then it should have been just as clear to the coaches. I think the fair criticism that should be made is ... why didn't the Highlands coaches reduce the schedule difficulty during this current two year cycle?

Um...maybe what really matters is not padding the stats with an easier schedule. It has long been the words, of many HHS supporters, that preparing for the playoffs is what the regular season is all about. Less talent, foresight of down years...whatever the case might be, why would it change the overall feeling that a tough schedule prepares the squad for a deeper run? I am 100% confident that the coaches dont care about the squabble on this message board.

Are we gonna continue to have these kinds of threads every week? Almost seem like after each loss there is another thread asking whats wrong with Highlands. Are folks really that giddy that Highlands is having a bad year and taking shots since they haven't been able to for roughly 30 years? My goodness

People watch NASCAR for the wrecks, not to see who wins. Highlands is an uncharacteristic 1-6 and a dumpster fire right now, so yes the threads will continue because it's a headline and unusual. If Cov Cath beats them it will break the internet.

Fair enough. Hopefully the 1-6 record doesn't get into the team's head and negatively impact them in the playoffs. Personally, I don't think putting a couple still challenging, not elite level teams on the schedule in place of an elite level team or two would hurt Highlands' playoff preparation. For example, instead of St. X ... Louisville Central; instead of Scott Co ... Lexington Catholic.

"Some" people watch NASCAR for the wrecks. Some do care who wins and some don't watch NASCAR. And some just like to drink adult beverages and don't even remember the race!

I think the bold is now Henry's chosen method for this season. :bunny:

They also could have stayed in Class 4A but easy is not their mind set. The law of averages says that future performance will improve and this year will make them stronger.

I expect that the next HHS home game will be played with a very large chip on the shoulders of the HHS players and nothing will be left on the field by either team. Cant wait for the game.

I agree with post but then coach because last week was disappointing it wasn't just jimmy and joes. I hear we have a two way player this week. Zero adjustments at half. Did anybody catch a photo of the staff walking off the field at half during Dixie game?

A 2 way player is a start but I think there are a few that could help.

What is up with the reference to the coaches walking off the field?

Nothing really matters until the playoffs. You might as well consider these games scrimmages. There is plenty of time to make some improvements and begin a run come week 11.
