October 5, 20169 yr Clizzy.....You have to Visit the Grove Park Inn at least while in Asheville. I have visited on numerous times and even stayed there on our 10th Anniversary for a long Weekend. Christmas time is the best time to Visit. But the Grove Park Inn is a must Visit. It's sits fairly close to Downtown. Hit up the Photo Gallery from my Link below..... October 5, 20169 yr One of my favorite towns in America. Like Boulder, CO, but in North Carolina, and with more history. Check out the Grove Park Inn, incredibly cool spot. Biltmore is amazing, you should join your bride to check it out.

The Omni Grove Park Inn | Asheville, North Carolina Resort Took the words right out of my mouth. I have had a work conference there twice the past 7-8 years. Neat place. Grab a bloody mary (they are known for them) and sit down in front of the fireplace in the lobby that you could drive a truck through while sipping it. Nice Donald Ross designed golf course on the premises too if you are into that, and a wonderful spa (but pricey). Ashville is a very eclectic town. Very artsy while also being very rustic. I would describe it as a mini Seattle nestled in the beauty of the NC mountains (my home state by the way). Someone mentioned Biscuit Heads above. I believe that's the place I had breakfast at a couple of times, very good. Several other local restaurants that are very good, but their name escapes me. Not much of a beer drinker myself but there are plenty of local selections and I am told some of them are very good.

Check out Sierra Nevada brewery images on google. The place is huge.
October 5, 20169 yr Construction on 40? No it just sucks in generalI'll second that. That part of 40 has a lot, and I mean a lot, of semi traffic. I guess they are cutting across from the I75 corridor to the I26 corridor. Anyway, the lanes are tight and the traffic is heavy. Just a crappy drive.
October 5, 20169 yr I absolutely love Asheville. Trying to determine a time to go back soon. I could honestly live there. A friend of mine owns a condo there and routinely brings me back Asheville beer. Here is my quick things you don't really want to miss. Biscuit Head is your must stop for breakfast. Tupleo Honey is good as well, but go to Biscuit Head and get a gravy flight. You won't be disappointed. For dinner you have to go to Limones. It's Latin. It's fantastic. That's really all you need to know. As far as breweries go. I tell everyone, go to Wicked Weed's Funkatorium for sure. You won't find another brewery like it in the Southeast. It's all barrel-aged sours. The staff is insanely knowledgeable and can help you find a great brew that you will like. I've been in there with 6 people that had never had a sour beer and/or claimed they hated them. Everyone was pleased. Then I'd make a stop at Wicked Weed. They are just crushing it in general. Lots to find here. This is where you go for WW's non-sour offerings. For my liking Burial has the next best beer selection. You want the Skillet Stout series for sure. Salt & Smoke is there and they do awesome small plates to snack on. Creative use of smoked and pickled foods. Owners are cool too. Finally, the other must hit in my opinion is Wedge. Beer is ok by Asheville standards but atmosphere is great. Food trucks are lined up outside on the weekends and they have games to play. We had a blast here last time. That doesn't begin to touch on the amount of breweries there but those are the three that are unique to Asheville that I would say are must stops. I highly recommend sticking with flights no matter where you go. Can really broaden your horizons. We hit most of the unique-to-Asheville breweries so if you have any questions I don't mind asking. Finally, if you want a bottle shop -- though the breweries have to-go cans/bottles as well -- Bruisin' Ales has a fantastic selection but can be a touch pricey.
October 5, 20169 yr If you have time, stop by the Asheville Bee Charmer. It is all about honey and honey based products. It is owned by a Beechwood grad who left the hectic business world to open this shop. They have all kinds of stuff. We bought their ghost pepper honey which is awesome to make chicken wings with. asheville bee charmer - Google Search

On the way back to TN it's amazing how long it takes to descend, I swear you are going downhill for 20 miles.

Not a walk in the park during the day, but it isn't that tough if you are an attentive driver. Total hell after the sun goes down. Add in any weather conditions and you might as well just stop before you get there and wait until morning...
