Asheville has long been on my list of places I need to explore.

A very good buddy of mine is getting married next August and his fiancees family owns a vacation house in Asheville.

I've got my fingers crossed I can convince him to have his bachelor party down there.

It may be a little crowded this weekend with folks bailing from the coastal towns but still wanting a little holiday.

My dad and his wife live in Charleston, have to evacuate, Asheville was their plan until I convinced to just come here tonight and spend the weekend.

In short, you're 100% correct!!!

That would be awesome.

Best wedding I have been to was in Asheville. The family rented out a B&B/Hotel and had the wedding/reception at the facility. We had 4 days paid for by the family. Got to spend a couple days exploring and the day of the wedding, just walk down from your room for the ceremony.

Didn't get to do a bachelor party though. That would be outstanding.

We are hiking Grandfather Mtn and it's famous mile high swinging bridge.

Grandfather Mountain, North Carolina

Based on the recommendations thus far I'm going to need more than 3 days.

There is also a very neat local "whole foods" type market near the Grove Park Inn...can't recall the name of it. Very very "bohemian" feel to it, some neat stuff they offer that you definitely don't find at Kroger. Pretty much staffed by young "hippies". Worth a stop if you have time.

OK, Mr. Grammar Guy. I sentence you to your old grammar texts so you can find out why the only time the letters i t and s come together with an apostrophe is in a contraction (except on the odd situation where its is in possession of something).

Darn it. Typed that on the phone so I'm guessing it went autocorrect and I missed it.

That's my story.

Clizzy.....You have to Visit the Grove Park Inn at least while in Asheville. I have visited on numerous times and even stayed there on our 10th Anniversary for a long Weekend. Christmas time is the best time to Visit. But the Grove Park Inn is a must Visit. It's sits fairly close to Downtown. Hit up the Photo Gallery from my Link below.....

The Omni Grove Park Inn | Asheville, North Carolina Resort

That's where I was going to try and get him a deal.

I made a similar mistake in another thread the same day. Realized I had done so too late to be able to edit it. :ohbrother:

Back from Asheville. Cool place. Loved hiking Grandfather Mtn, Chimney Rock, and traveling the Blue Ridge Highway. Beautiful place. Stood at the highest peak east of the Mississippi at about 6800 feet above sea level.

Loved Wicked Weed Brewery. Loved their dark ale that aged in rum barrels. Sadly, no bottles of it available to bring home. Checked out their Funkatorium place. Hipster Central.

Twin Leafs Brewery is a solid place. Had a porter from Asheville Brewing Company that was tasty. Tried a porter from Wedge Brewing and it was just OK. Had a beer sitting on the terrace at Grove Park Inn. Great scenery.

Cat head biscuits and the gravy at Biscuit Head were outstanding. Loved their spicy sausage gravy. Didn't get to go back to Tupelo Honey because we were heading in the opposite direction the last morning. Had BBQ at Buxton's. Bleh. 12 Bones was the place we wanted to go but business is so good for them that they can close at 4:00 so we never made it.

Biltmore was just crazy to see. Hard to believe the guy built it when he was a single cat. IF you go, get their EARLY before the tour buses arrive. As we left I bet there were 300 people waiting in line.

Best meal was at Pack's Tavern downtown. Their pizza is LEGIT and they have a very nice beer selection.

Cool place. Easy drive.

I second Tupelo Honey Cafe....outstanding. The original location is the downtown one. Tupelo Honey Cafe | A Southern Restaurant with Mountain South Roots

I would try to get out of the Biltmore. Paying a bunch of Billionaires $65 a head to go look at their stuff? Pass.

It was a good visit. Better than I expected. Not often you get to see a house like that.
