Asheville, NC

It was a good visit. Better than I expected. Not often you get to see a house like that.

Good friends of ours live in Asheville and the locals know of a "Backdoor" to Biltmore. It's a great hike and provides access to all of the grounds. Just not access to the inside. We packed a late lunch, took many a picture of the gardens and architecture and it didn't cost a thing.

The landscaping and view from outside was enough for us. Tours are expensive and too time consuming in my book!

Glad to hear Clyde enjoyed the trip! I look forward to visiting soon in the spring...

Sounds like you did quite a bit. How long was your stay?

Currently enjoying a long weekend in Asheville and wanted to share the following. Have ate very well on our journey and recommend the following eateries and drinking establishments.

King Daddys for chicken and waffles is fantastic. They have an heirloom fried chicken entree that will knock your socks off. Fried green maters are great and for you chicken liver fans they have a excellent deep fried app and entree.

Luelas BBQ is very good. Enjoyed a lunch at 12 Bones BBQ and the sides were great. The brisket, not so much! Went to Moose Cafe, next to the Farmers Market, and had a fab breakfast including Livermush which is the regions version of our goetta minus the oats. The fried chicken around here is outstanding, all that I have sampled have been far better than any in the NKY region...

A lot of farm to table cooking going on in the Asheville region and it shows in quality and taste.

We went to Greenville SC yesterday for the afternoon and enjoyed the downtown city center. Lots of shops and restaurants to enjoy. I had a very good Cubano burger at the "Nose Dive." Checked out an Ansel Adams exhibit, as well as, a Persian Gulf War exhibit at the City Art Museum.

While in Asheville owe it to yourself to check Carl Sandbergs home ( Nobel Prize and Pulitzer winner ). Really beautiful property now considered a National Park. His wife was an internationally known Goat breeder. Not too often you get to see the descendants of the greatest GOATS of all time...:lol2:

Thirsty Monk brewery is outstanding...3 floors including a rooftop bar. 60 beers on tap and 200 plus bottled from all over. Asheville brewery scene is impressive. I thought Greater Cincinnati had it's fair share. I WAS WRONG!!! Highland and Catawba Brewing have become new favorites. You can fill growlers at gas stations all throughout town. Beer is a very serious business in the region. :)

Looking forward to some kayaking and canoeing before heading back to NKY and listening to some good music this evening....oh, and drinking more very good craft beer!!!

Hope this helps future folks who travel to the Asheville region.

And check out the Farmers Market, great diversity of products...we stock up on our honey supply when down here!!!

Go to Biscuit Head...

Indeed

Go to Biscuit Head...

We were going to go today but slept in after too much fun last night. Headed there in the morning early to beat the crowd. Looking forward to it!

It comes highly recommended...thank you :thumb:

Flight. Of. Gravy. Mmmmmmm....

Add Blue Ghost Brewing Co in Fletcher NC on the south side of Asheville. Their Kolsch and Hefeweizen are SOLID! They are also the HQ for Olive ( a very good food truck ). Loaded fried brussel sprouts are very popular in the region. They load em up with fantastic pimento cheese & bacon. Good Lord they are good! Grilled steak and shrimp tacos are A+ also...

Listened to a instrumental guitar talent by the name of Sean Bendula. Worth tracking down where he is playing if in the area! Thinking I've gained about 5 lbs in the last 3 days and saving room for Biscuit Head in the am...:lol2:

Holy biscuits and gravy batman....who knew??? :thumb:

It's ALL GOOD! I really enjoyed the red eye gravy with the country ham biscuit. I won't be needing sodium on much in the days ahead! We went to the west side location on Haywood and there wasn't a line until 9:15a. Enjoy folks if you get a chance to partake down the road.

The best breakfast spot I've ever been to, and I've been to A LOT. :lol2:

Everything is excellent, and you leave needing a nap at 10 am... :idunno:

:lol2:...I got to pack, get in a car, and travel back to NKY shortly after! I would have really enjoyed the nap version!!!

They have an entire buffet bar dedicated to jams and butter to place on said biscuits. Best coffee I've had in awhile as well. They need one here... SOON!!! :walk:
