Heading there for a few days next week. Going to Chimney Rock to hike. I'm sure my bride will want to check out the Biltmore.

Looking for good eats and good breweries and any other hiking recs.

My wife and I were down there this summer for our 10 year anniversary. We ate at a place called Pack's Tavern that was very good. Refurbished old lumberyard that used to run whiskey off the back loading dock. Neat place with good food.

I have a co-worker that just returned from there a few weeks ago. I will let you know some things that he suggested.

Have a place to stay?

Tupelo Honey Cafe for breakfast...

Have a fantastic farmers market as well!

They have a great trolley tour that you hop on and off that stops at different key spots in the city. The driver gives you great historical info between stops. I highly recommend it. We stopped and ate in the Art District trolley stop. AWESOME city. There re 9 stops I think. We got off at 4 or 5 of them. Spent the whole day.

Biltmore is not just a quick tourist stop. The ticket gets you in for 2 days I think. We wanted to cruise by on the way to myrtle beach one year and didn't plan enough time.

Yes. AirBNB'd it.

Biscuit Head for breakfast.

We did the same thing. Took a different (longer) route home from a trip to the Atlantic coast of Florida. Cut across South Carolina and would up headed for Ashville. Decided to stop off a see Biltmore. It's way bigger than you can imagine. Really neat tour. What I thought would be a good break from driving for a couple of hours turned out to be an almost all day thing, and we still didn't see everything that there is to do on the grounds. Toured the mansion and adjacent gardens but that was about it.

As far a breweries, Ashville is not lacking. I've not been to any, but several local breweries are highly thought of from what I've read. At worst your drinking beer. Hard to go wrong.

Did you pay extra for the audio tour?

No, I didn't really feel like we missed out on anything either. Plenty of things to read along the way, probably get the same information you just have to seek it out a little more. I believe that more rooms are opened up now than when we were there several years ago.

One thing that looked pretty cool that we didn't get to do is take part in a rooftop tour. I think you might have to get reservations in advance.
