Drew Barker is one of the few bright spots of the game to me. The talent is there and he had the poise of a SEC QB. The turnovers were tough but the first fumble was an experience mistake and the pick was trying to make a play as UK was on life support at the time.

 

People can take personal shots all they want but QB play did not lose the game and anyone who thinks so is jaded or knows very little about football.

 

UK's front 7 are as bad as there is in college football. UK's secondary is talented no doubt about it, but in the SEC teams will not have to throw it when they are getting 5-7 yds a pop every time they run.

 

Stoops has been given some passes in the past since he took over a mess, but his luck may have run out. Without a bowl game he may be unemployed.

12 Million dollars says Stoops isn't going anywhere. Like him or not, things have improved since he took over the mess Joker left behind. I think a $12 million dollar buyout is absurd for an unproven coach, but it is what it is and he's not going to be fired regardless of how this season pans out. Anyone that thinks that probably thought that Bill Parcells would be Rich Brooks replacement.

If you were the coach, what would you do to fix that? You seem to have some football knowledge, just curious what you would do to solve the problem.

 

I know you didn't ask me but here is my thoughts. Everyone has known since the end of last season the d line was going to be UK's greatest weakness. Knowing that and that you cannot expect new recruits to contribute right away, why didn't UK go after 2 or 3 decent Juco d linemen who could provide immediate experience while the young guys learn and develop?

I get that, but aren't you still taking a gamble, by assuming a couple of Juco's solve the problem? What I'm getting at is the depth problem is a huge problem, as it has been the entire time I've been watching UK play. So I guess what I'm getting at is if you don't have the two or three Juco's to come in and fix everything, how would you fix the team as it is in it's current state?

 

I'm not singling you out at all. But it seems that the majority thinks this is a coaching issue. So if it is, I'm curious what the people that think that would do to solve the issues.

I agree with you that relying on Jucos year after year would be a bad idea but Jucos can be a great bandage when you have a glaring hole in your program like UK does at D Line. Is it a gamble? Well, I guess everything in recruiting is a gamble but not taking Jucos pretty guarantees failure like we saw Saturday.

How does depth continue to be a problem at UK? This is Stoops 4th year, aren't most of the players his recruits now? What happened to those great classes that he recruited? AS an outsider looking in it certainly looks like a coach who can recruit but can't use the talent on the field.

DL Pringle for this year was a JUCO and they brought in Miggins and Bell before that. JUCO is not the answer if they can't be a contributor immediately. Depth is the issue but they gotta dig deep and sign a bunch of DL asap and start developing them. Seems like they go after the flashy or the skill positions too much. Defense and winning in the trenches is the key at any level. JMHO

It is a coaching issue when you are in year 4 and don't have any defensive linemen that can play dead. Part of coaching is bringing in talent.

It seems to be that UK has a very fragile psyche. They let some bad breaks completely take away their spirit. Is the locker room tight? I heard it was divided last year. The HC needs to take care of these issues.

I think they are good at coming up with an effective game plan. The plan they came out with for So Miss was a good one. They were very effective. Until So.Miss made some changes and started doing some different things, by scheming to take away what was working for us.

 

The coaches just seem to lack the ability to make adjustments as the game goes.

There is no depth. Elam played the entire game. He was gassed by 3rd quarter. Find another SEC school that plays their nose the entire game.

Barker showed flashes that he could really be a nice QB.
