July 9, 201610 yr But there is a disconnect between blacks and the police and that needs to be fixed somehow someway. To ignore that disconnect is just as wrong. There is so much that needs to be discussed and worked on but we can't seem to get past the most basic conversation pieces to have any true progress. What do you think the disconnect is or what caused the disconnect. Just as many whites get arrested or killed by police as blacks do. What is it about a black person that makes a cop not trust them? What has happened in the past to cause the distrust.
July 9, 201610 yr Had a long discussion earlier this week before all of this happened, with someone. He was saying that police officers and soldiers knew what they were getting into when they signed up for their job. He said he didn't understand all of the grief shown when a soldier or police officer was killed, because after all that's what they signed up for. I strongly disagreed saying that they signed up to serve not die. Now some on here have presented this exact same attitude that this guy did over the past years. Basically if a policeman gets killed, well he knew that was a chance...too bad for him. Well how come the same people that feel that police officers know what they are in for when they sign up, don't call out criminals for their bad actions. After all, if they didn't break the law, or if they followed commands of police officers they probably wouldn't get tased, tackled, pepper sprayed or shot. Will mistakes happen, yes. But can anyone with a straight face say that if the guy in Baton Rouge doesn't resist and raises his hands to be searched none of what happened would have happened? So why did he resist, why did he refuse to comply? Maybe because he was a convicted felon and reportedly in possession of a gun, which in all likelihood would have sent him back to prison. So maybe he thought it was worth it to try to get away from police, maybe he thought that was better than going back to prison...I don't know. But I'll bet anything I have that if he had complied he would be alive today and possibly so would 5 dead police officers in Dallas.
July 9, 201610 yr Younger people are not afraid or respect the police anymore. When I grew up' date=' cops were respected and it was yes sir and no sir. Not that way now.[/quote'] You weren't around in the 60s.

What is it about a black person that makes a cop not trust them? What has happened in the past to cause the distrust. The disconnect is that when some black people say how they feel some white people get offended and don't want to continue the conversation with listening, compassionate ears. Walls get put up, double standards are thrown out, nothing changes.
July 9, 201610 yr Seems Obama has already took to calling for fun restrictions not even a whole day later. Should not use this a politics IMO. At least wait a few days. He sign an executive order or something? Or are folks just offended by his statement? Folks get offended about stuff too much these days. People need thicker skin. All PC and stuff.
July 9, 201610 yr It seems to me that both sides just want to blame the other instead of trying to find real solutions to real problems. I think it is more like neither side wants to take responsibility.
July 9, 201610 yr You weren't around in the 60s. Or the 70s. I remember a lot of disrespect toward police back then.
July 9, 201610 yr Thank You, that's what I was looking for. I knew what you were driving at, but the way it was phrased was pretty funny. :thumb:
July 9, 201610 yr Police officers shot in Georgia and St. Louis were ambushed | WREG.com A police officer was shot in a suburb of St. Louis. KMOV-TV reports the officer was shot around 11:10 a.m. The officer stopped a car and was walking away from it when he was shot in the back. The incident was caught on the police car cameras. The officer is in the hospital in critical condition. In Georgia, authorities say a man opened fire on a police officer in Valdosta Friday morning. The man reportedly called 911 to report a break-in. When the officers arrived, he ambushed them, hitting the officer in the abdomen, just below the protective vest. Other shots hit the officer’s vest. The suspect was also shot. Both men are expected to survive. Valdosta Police Chief Brian Childress said the officer was shot “multiple times” but is going to be fine. 2 officers just doing their job ambushed by a couple of piles of crap. I think he should be publicly executed
July 9, 201610 yr I think it is more like neither side wants to take responsibility. You're probably right, but until both sides do, there will be no progress. We need some leaders to step up and lead, with their only agenda being to resolve the problems as best as they can be resolved.

July 9, 201610 yr Progress is never going to happen. I've tried to remain positive on this, and not completely given up yet, however the last few days on social media has just about done it.
