My personal opinion is that the championship venue should rotate to different sites on a 4 or 5 year basis. Have it in BG for 4 years, then Lexington for 4 years, then Louisville for 4 year and a location in the SE part of the state for 4 year and continue to rotate. But that requires someone or some corporate sponsorship. WKU was the only one (correct me if I'm wrong) that submitted a bid the last application period. That's why it will be there until 2018. We shall see if anyone else comes up with a competing bid this next cycle.

 

This would be a good plan that it would probably encourage more attendance. Location and cost of tickets are what affect attendance.

This is what I mean by short sighted. If ticket sales provide revenue and people do not come, then it could be better to take less of a financial package upfront for a better location and more revenue from ticket sales. I do not know the financials, what I do know is the KHSAA has an attendance problem.

I honestly don't care enough to argue about it. I have stated multiple times that if the KHSAA had 1 choice, then they made the right choice because it was the only choice.

 

We will disagree on the business model of making more money up front or making more money on the back end with ticket sales. In simple terms, if the difference in bids $10,000. We are talking about 667 tickets at $15 a pop. If a better location increases attendance by 668 people, then taking less up front is a better option.

 

Again, this is a moot point if the KHSAA had 1 option.

IMO, Bowling Green is too far west. Venue size is fine.

Yeah, not a fan of the Sunday games. Since I must travel that far to watch the games, I would really like to have a day off between Saturday and Sunday.

Played in both Louisville and WKU stadiums for state, WKU by far was a much better atmosphere as a player and definitely made the long haul worth it. The locker rooms were much nicer at WKU as well, we didn't get to use the nice locker rooms in Louisville.

I like the two games Friday Saturday Sunday and hope that they rotate which days each of the classes play.

I don't really get into the whole "lets move it here, lets move it there" argument, but if it were to move anywhere else, I would vote for EKU (after they do a stadium renovation) I think that it would/could do well there, is pretty central in the state & has enough in the surrounding areas to support the crowds; hotels, restaurants, etc....

 

That being said, I think that the worst place it could possibly be moved would be to Commonwealth Stadium.

I'm with you PP. they can move the 3A game to Detroit if they want to and I'll be right there if the Pirates are playing.

I am not sure that most people would consider Lexington to be a significant improvement in location.

What about Sunday evening church? How many games have you had scheduled on Sunday?

 

From my days of coaching high level youth baseball, youth wrestling, youth basketball and youth football....probably several hundred...at least. Sunday sporting events are not at all uncommon. If church got in the way of sporting events, all the professional leagues would be shut down on Sunday. NBA and NFL games sell out on Christmas day. Do you really think there are large number of high school athletes that can't compete in the State Championship on a Sunday because of church??

I hope when the contract is up that The other schools put in for it. Kentucky just got turf recently and I think EKU got it after WKU had already had the bid for it.

Completely agree. I would travel anywhere in the state to be a part of a state tournament or championship.

Look, money talks. The KHSAA is an organization and has bills to pay. If the KHSAA goes under, the kids lose.

 

If the KHSAA keeps the football title game in Bowling Green forever, 99 percent of the people win, the whiners and it's all about me, me people lose.

 

Looking at the state championship sites, most are either in Louisville or Lexington. That's where most of y'all want the football state title to be played.

Fact is, if Murray State had put in the best bid, that's where the football state titles would be. If the Univeristy of Pikeville had put in the best best bid. that's where they would be. It's not because the KHSAA hates y'all.

 

EKU might not want to host because of the D I-AA Playoffs.

 

UK might not want to host because it's too much work and they don't get enough benefits from having the event.

 

U of L might not want to host because of the same reasons UK has.

 

Murray State might not want to host because their facilities aren't the best and perhaps miraculously one day they'll host a D I-AA Playoff game.

 

Not sure why Morehead wouldn't put in a bid. But I'm sure they have their reasons.

 

Hosting the state football championships isn't as easy as we think they are because the University is gong to want to use it as a recruiting tool.

 

At the end of the day, the people who care, will attend the state title game.

 

I'm sure Junior's parents out of Belfry would travel seven hours to see him play for a championship if they were in Murray.

 

I'm sure sure Junior's parents out of Paducah would travel seven hours to see him play for a championship if they were in Pikeville.

 

Location is the least of the KHSAA worries. Somebody will get screwed.
